Dying Light 2 - December 7th

1080p isn't a deal breaker for me especially in open world games but I won't play anything at 30fps if I can help it. Just feels bad going back to that.

Exactly, 4k/30 RTX on and 4k/60 RTX off. This is what I was led to believe for this gen and the reason I got both new consoles.

Imagine us lot with an Xbox Series S - 1080p30 with no RT at all is all we get in this game. :D It's definitely a wait-for-Game Pass job. The thing that looks just awful to me is the texture work. It still looks like something from the olden days, like BioShock in Unreal Engine 2.5

As expected plays like ass on resolution, performance much smoother but graphically it’s far from impressive. Feels very last gen so far.

Combat isn’t the best either, you’re smashing zombies with big metal clubs and it doesn’t feel weighty at all to me on impact. Yet when you knock a zombie down they fly across the screen like you’ve hit them with a truck :p

What’s up with not being able to bash a zombies head in when they’re on the ground as well? Sure I can remember being able to do that in the first game.

I’m enjoying it now I’ve gotten into it a bit more, graphics aside I do like to scavenge and there’s plenty of opportunities for that sort of thing.

I played it for a few hours yesterday and enjoyed it. It's more of the same so if you liked the first game you'll enjoy this.
There are 2 major changes I really don't like:
1) The timer you get at night where you can only spend a certain amount of time in the dark before you need to get to a UV light. It's annoying and ruins exploring at night a bit.
2) The fact you need to find "inhibitors" to boost your health or stamina. I'd be fine with it for health but it was much better in the first game where your stamina would increase just by running around.

Played a few hours, not noticed many bugs apart from the the odd parkour mishap and the sound cutting out needing a restart.

This game is obviously huge though, so much to do.

I have played it a fair bit over the weekend and here are some of my thoughts about it.

Yes, the night time stuff with having to snort shrooms or take inhalers is a real downer. Although it does make exploring at night a real pain it does add tension. It also scales as you level up your health and stamina. I think i am at about 7-8 mins on a full UV Charge. You also get UV Flares/lights that you can pop in a safe area and recharge fully.
The graphics are OK but not great. Pretty much looks like the PS4 Pro but a little cleaner. The draw distances tho are great but i have also found the frame rate, even on performance, can dip below 60 at times. :o
It has quite a few bad bugs, these range from getting stuck in places that you cant get out of and have to either kill yourself or quit to continue along with graphics/model/texture glitching and clipping problems.
There is a lot going on in the game and at times can be a bit overwhelming, maybe its because its a little more in depth like RPG than i am used to. I have done a decent amount of the campaign and not really even touched any of the night zones or super infected areas like the GRE facilities.
The weapons and clothing/armor system is very complicated. Its really tough to see the difference between different items as the stats are shown in percent and there isnt a compare to what you currently have equipped.

Also i got into a weird bug that was a real pain to get sorted. After i got to the second part of the map fast travel opens up and you get the paraglider, I had played through the new part of the map, done a couple of missions and thought i would go back to the first part of the map and do some of the missions back there before continuing. Only problem with that was that for some reason there isnt automatically a fast travel point in the new part of the map and its bloody hard to get back there and takes quite a while and there is nothing telling you how to get there. I had to google it and watch a youtube video. After all the delays it doesnt look like there has been a great deal of QA on this product.

One tip i can give is to get your health and stats up so you can get the Drop Kick ability.. Its great fun and sends the zombies flying :D The ai on the human enemies are a bit more clever and can dodge but its sooo satisfying drop kicking a zombie off the top of a building.. :D

The night time stuff becomes much less of a chore once you're upgraded you stats using the injectors as it adds time to your infection meter.

I'm finding the game so much more enjoyable levelling up a couple of times then doing content a level or 2 below, you can lob zombies heads off with a single strike with a decent enough weapon and gear stats that suit the weapon you're using.

One thing that's disappointing is that a number of skills you unlock are pretty much useless, or close to useless. Double jump is a prime example as it's not what you expect a double jump to be, it's also incredibly situational to the point of I'd say it's useless.

Extended sprint is another as it doesn't seem to stay on past a certain point of your stamina. May as well just save the skill point and hit dash twice.
