I'm on Virgin Meida 10MB, NTL:120 modem, DLINK615 (wired connection)

Recently, i have been using torrents quite a lot (freeleech on a certain LEGAL webiste which ended 5 days ago), my bandwidth is very often throttled, however, since the freeleech, now it seems that my whenever i use torrents, my connection still says it's connected, but i cannot connect the internet (browser, itune store, msn) but the torrents still work. And the only way i can fix the connection is to disable the ethernet connection for around 15 minutes.

It also seems that recently i have bandwidth cuttouts (fairly normal occurance if i download too much) during 00.00 - 16.00 (non-throttling time).

So, do you think i need to get my modem replaced basically, or is this another problem?

Installed any WIndows Updates recently? Sounds like the TCP/IP connection limit which you can increase/remvoe with xp-antispy. Or you may have gone and increased the number of connections your client uses and it's too much for your modem.

sounds to me like a router problem, well it could be, or it could be the modem

mine used to do something similar, after a night of perfectly legal torrenting if i tried to go on msn/xfire/brower it wouldn't connect to the website/service even though my PC was on the net and the i could still torrent. a simple reset of my Router used to sort it

try resetting your router, see if that helps at all

right, reset modem + router, still slows down when torrents are set up, even when im not download/uploading anything.
rung up virgin, had them send a replacement, fairly easy, and theyll refund the cos of the phone call. better service than i was expecting :)

right, got a new modem, and it still seems to cut out during torrent use.
im update with Vista SP1 and still using ethernet connection, so what could the TCP/IP problem be?
