Hi guys

I am hopeing I might be able to call onyour experience. I have a old computer with a nvidia quadro 4 AGP graphics card in it. Just recently it has been playing up when it gets hot with random characters appearingonthescreen and the display getting funny messed up patches in it. I'm guessing the graphics card is on the way out.

Luckily it has on-board graphics as well but I have tried removing the graphics card and connecting the monitor to this and it works but I can only get a very low resolution output and there appears to be no way to change it. Any ideas guys, on either the graphics card or setting it up to use on-board graphics.

Cheers

Hi

I've been looking ito the problem some more since it is strange that the computer works fine for the first hour and then the screen goes crazy. I've tried installing everest and it won't give any readings for the graphics card (I guess the card is too old to have any sensors on it).

I've also tried opening the case and directing a household fan inside the case and then after rebootingit worked fine again. This makes me think it is overheating but when I touch the heat sink of the graphics card it is just warm and nothing more.

I haven't been on the computer for a few weeks (it was working perfect) and when I tried it again, I was getting this problem.

Any thoughts ?

i would try removing heatsink off gpu clean and add new paste and see if it fixs it, u normally get artifacts on your screen if your graphics card is overheating.

Hi

My boss has agreed to buy a replacement graphics card for me. I am looking for an equivalent card for a Quadro 4 980XGL. The motherboard only had a AGP port on it so my choices are quite limited. Does anyone still supply AGP quadro cards ?

Any recommendations ?

Thanks

Hi

I've been looking aroung and have found,
- Saphire HD 3850
- Saphire HD 4650
- BFG Nvidia 7600

Which one of these is the best one to go for ?

I have checked inside the machine and it only has a 250W power supply, will that be sufficent ot run these ?

Thanks
