Not sure I have the title correct but I need to access a NAS drive at home that has a dynamic IP (via Sky) but remember seeing something about applying a hostname to the dynamic IP so you can dial in that way if the IP changes?

Hope the above makes sense!

You can do this if your router supports it as far as im aware.

I use this at the moment and pay for a domain name but you can easily get free ones.

REMOVED: Beerbaron's is the one! should provide some information (cant view it at work as they block it :S )

It's the new sky hub which I don't think has it but I was looking through my Synology NAS settings and it looks like you can set it up on there via a free Synology account so going to have a look thanks.

I think that the free dyndns expires your hostname if you don't physically log into your web account once every 30 days.
There are some scripts on the net that will run as a scheduled task to log in for you but I haven't gotten around to doing it yet.
I'm using a combo of dyndns with their client updater and also freedns.afraid.org for my mx records on my home Exchange box. I'd guess your router and your NAS box will support dyndns so you could run two services.

those with free dyndns account (login every 30 days to keep active)

they are changing it now so it will no longer be free :(
