Dynamic resolution

It does seem the big thing with this round of consoles but was almost unheard of with the 360 & PS3.

It was certainly a 'thing' as there were many games running at sub-HD resolutions.

But there was an underlying expectation that the new consoles would be outputting 1080p as a minimum, and with the increased prevalence of platform comparison the resolution is arguably the biggest difference between the consoles so this is probably why you are hearing about it more now.

When 360 and PS3 came out 720P HDTV's were only just hitting the market, I remember as I bought that 720P LCD that Microsoft were recommending at the time. I don't think it's a stretch to expect consoles released 8 years later at a time when 720P has been largely phased out and 1080P become the new standard to have native support for 1080P.

To me game detail is more important than resolution. I would rather the game was 720p but have a detailed rich world than 1080p and cut back.

I agree they really should be 1080p but I don't think the difference between 720p and 1080p is that noticeable on PS4. I cannot tell the difference anyway...

:)

If you can't tell 720p and 1080p for 4 feet away from a 50" TV I would recommend getting your eyes checked. I can't fathom how you couldn't notice 100% more information for what is considered close range from a large TV

You don't work for IGN do you? :p

ps3ud0

Anyone that needs to sit 4ft away from from a 50" TV needs their eyes checked :p

I sit 9ish feet away from my 50" and the XBO looks delicious irrespective of what I'm playing.

It also looks just as good on the 92" projector, from the same distance.

I'm Not sure if I like this. In theory we get better image quality when nothing much is going on but could developers just reduce the res instead of optimising their games?
