That's nice for you, but you can get a perfectly good PC laptop with similar specs for half the cost of a Mac or less, so if you want a Mac you pay for it, as far as I'm concerned.
It's like getting a car from the government and saying oh I decided I'd have a BMW rather than a Ford because they're better, when the Ford would have done the job for less money.
No wonder the country is up to the eyeballs in debt when the government is this liberal with spending taxpayers' money!
I do pay for this, I pay taxes and I have a massive student loan which is accruing interest they will get their money back don't you worry.
The computer is what they deemed was appropriate, I was given the least expensive Mac there was and as above they paid over the odds for it.
Its about providing a computer the student will actually use not just giving them the cheapest bit of crap you can.
PCs are known to have a higher TCO and are more likly to go wrong and as a Mac user there was no logical reason to add more things for me to learn in addition to my lectures and the new software they were providing me.
I don't think it is for you to decide what I did and didn't need unless you are a trained educational psycologist. Which I presume you are not.
I did need a Mac its almost industry standard for design work like mine to take place on a Mac and the <£400 for a PC craptop doesn't give me a £900 computer and your compairson is based on real world prices, the real rip-off is the companies who provide the equiptment charge a absolout fortune over the RRP of a product, in the DSAs mind there is not £400 laptop its more like £650.
My £900 iMac would have been far less if it were not for the rippoffs i am sure.

To continue your argument, why bother giving disabled people wheelchairs? After all, it's not like they can't function without them.Whether you 'needed' one or not is irrelevant!! Everyone else has to pay for their own be it a £300 cheapo one or a £900 rip-off thing. Why should you be entitled to a free one at the taxpayers expense because for whatever reason you can't spell??
You even criticise the government in your own post for giving stuff away yet you are part of the same culture that feels like everyone should give you something because in some way you are less fortunate than others.
If you need a laptop for your education/work whatever then buy one like everyone else!!

haha, that guy is a moron who has no idea what it is like to underachive constantly through no fault of your own.
To put it in perspective, i get 25% extra time and an A3 size paper. My grades went from C's to A*'s.

We have an NHS which provides resources to people who need it. You aren't ill, you don't need a laptop for your health and there is nothing stopping you earning or borrowing the money yourself to buy one.
Its not about the laptop and if you could see that then you might understand, but because you are so blinded with jealousy all your all seeing is that the student gets a free computer none of the reasons why, how about you grow up and swap places with a dyslexic person and see if you wouldn't mind getting a bit of help for a change.
I'm sure we could all do with 25% extra time![]()
A disabled person can function without things like that, merely in a reduced state. We have an NHS which provides resources to people who need it. You aren't ill, you don't need a laptop for your health and there is nothing stopping you earning or borrowing the money yourself to buy one.

It is not jealousy, I just think it is wrong. Of course I can see that those considered dyslexic would enjoy receiving this assistance, that is rather obvious.
No because some people don't try, you could give a person extension after extension to do work and they won't do it but if you give someone who wants to succeed more time then they can.
I have seen this at university, perfectly normal people will get various extensions on work and do nothing whilst those with dyslexia do well because they are trying and so its about how hard you work and giving a dyslexic student more time helps them achieve.
