Dyson uprights - they actually worth the premium???

It's noisy, a bit heavy, but the difference it has made to the carpets is amazing.
I'm maintaining the opposite is true (I own both too)

The miele has more brushes on its bar than the dyson, it's also a lot heavier than a ball dyson and I think this coupled with the extra vibration from the bigger motor kicks up more dust.

I've always been a fanboi of dysons but on carpets, meile upright is better. Any other situation I'd go for a dyson

One of its best features is actually its 14m cable, that actually saves a lot of faff unplugging it in larger homes.
Bags are £25 for 20 on ebay so there are some running costs, but I really wouldn't use the meile if I didn't think it was the better model

The S7 has a variable suction which none of the dysons do, now I thought this was a bit pointless unless I used in on those dirt trapper mats, it stops it sucking tight. Also helps on curtains, as a dyson would just suck it all into the pipe.

And like the meile fanbois say, they are actually built a little better :/
Which Miele are people talking about? The upright or the smaller model like a Henry?
God no, the upright S7 series, those hedgehog models are as stupid as the henrys, you'd be knocking it into everything.

The new vax we bought when moving in to the new house is loads better than the Dyson ball we looked at at the same time. And it was a third of the price!

In short - No they are not worth the premium as they clog up to easy & are only any good when totally empty.
Henry on the other hand is Top boy & sucks like a working girl from Bangkok.

I second this, the better half has got a dc02 which was released in 1995 as is still going strong, never been serviced and has been used for rubble and dust.

She got it in 1996 so in my eyes there pretty good.

I bought a Dyson dc01 Antartica solo in 1996, which is still going strong.

Had two dysons, one broke after a full house hoover, immediately went out and bought a Vax mach7 with a 6 year warranty, came home and hoovered again. Holy moly the things it pulled from the floor that the dyson did not was staggering.

One negative is that its a heavy old lump, especially compared to the single wheeled dyson thing.

Had it 4 years now and only had to replace the belt once as it had stretched. It was also about 2x cheaper than a typical dyson.

So a comparison with a broken Dyson? That's more random than a Which magazine review :p
Buy, no have used and serviced several Dyson hovers and had one in the shared house I lived in for 3 years! I think that qualifies me to make the choice I did!
Have you used a Meile?
I can't see any reason to recommend a vax over a dyson ball  other than the vax's are always on offer. If you have two similar machines and one has a ball, then the dyson would need to be made of soft cheese for it not to be ranked higher?
If someone was on a budget then I'd still pick a secondhand meile over a new vax, it saves taking the broken vax back to the shop as well.

btw if someone does want a Vax, then getting it through their factory sales can work out a lot cheaper.

Nope never used a meile, never said the vax was better than the ball Dyson. Vax = easy to fix cheap to fix and cheaper to buy.
Dyson = difficult to take apart, expensive on genuine parts and you get the slightest amount of water near the suction system and it will be gummed up before you know it!

We found the Henry hoover rubbish at picking up hair as it has no rotating brush, useless if you have carpets.

My missus has long hair which gets everywhere!

The dyson we have picks it up no problem, overpriced yes but they are decent.

Sorry the dyson was not broken while hoovering, i.e it had all the vacuum it should. it then blew the motor.

The comparison was night and day tbh Vax all day long but only if you can put up with the heavy / hard push around.

We bought two new Dyson vacuum cleaners recently and ive been very impressed.
The Tangle-free Turbine attachment for the stairs is amazing.

DC34 - I'm not sure how we survived without it.

I quite fancy a Kirby Sentria but I'm gonna wait for my Dyson to die first

Have a long think first, yes it will last forever but the thing weighs a lot (even more than a Meile which frankly is already a bit too heavy).
I'd trade a bit of suction power for a bit of usability.

Actually the only person I know who has a Kirby, employs a cleaner instead, so make of that what you will :o

Would agree with this, I bought a DC40 earlier this year and compared to the hoover it replaced I'm really pleased with it. Build seems good and it picks up the mixture of cat hair and my wife's hair from the carpet that the old hoover couldn't touch.
