Dyson V8

Well, it arrived today.

Dyson said they would not exchange it :p Oh well, worth asking.

Was going to put it on the MM but I do not think Vacuum cleaners are permitted :D Such a shame as still shrink wrapped, Dyson 5 year manufacturers warranty, I would think £300 collected is a fair price? Could get a nice Mielé.

This..

We have a 3 story place with 2 rooms on each floor, hoovering with a corded vacuum used to be a real chore. Now we whip round in 10 minutes to cover the whole house.

The waste container could do with being double the size imo, but you get used to it.

Is it adequate for deep pile carpets?

The Mielé does a great job.

Well, sold the V8.

Going to pickup a Mielé C3 Cat and Dog tomorrow :D

More simple than the V8 but I am more comfortable with it.

At least I know it can handle a deep shag.

I only have an old Dyson but aren't those Mielés annoying because you need to keep getting bags etc?

Personally, I do not mind replacing a bag every few months.

All I know is that our last Mielé (S5280) is almost 10 years and fell down stairs and all sorts and still going. Only fault is cable winder stopped working.

I don't have a miele, but find bagged vacuums much less annoying than emptying the bin on a bagless vacuum, only to have to clean the dust storm from around the bin immediately after

Take bag out, put new one in. No mess, no fuss.

Ask for this bad boy:

I maybe interested in one when I see them do a set of stairs.....:p
As I can't see much use for a vacuum cleaner that can't hoover the stairs..

Or you have to buy one of them for the up stairs rooms and one for the down stairs rooms and plus a normal vacuum cleaner to do the stairs..

Did you pick up the Miele today? If so how is it? I have a German Shepherd that drops hair everywhere etc... How is the suction, When I do my stairs it's always a hard job that I never want to do it:rolleyes:

How is the cost with getting the bags? I have an Air blower that I use to blow my PC out and the bin for the vacuum, It most definitely is a dirt storm when it's getting cleaned.:D

I have a henry, and picked a 10 pack of genuine bags up when they're on offer for ~£5 or so. I change them when they're full/losing suction, normally only 2 or 3 times a year. Mainly because I use it for diy too and it ends up full of sawdust etc lol

Miele are more like £10 for 4 bags and basic filter, the charcoal filter the cat & dog has is about £15 but only needs changing once a year.

Did you pick up the Miele today?

Not today, it is arriving tomorrow.

There was infact a change of plan.

I was going to get this:

Miele Complete C3 Cat and Dog Power Line
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Miele-Comp...ie=UTF8&qid=1479680351&sr=8-2&keywords=c3+dog

That is a 1200w Powerline model. The "Cat and Dog" variant includes fancy air filters, and the Turbo Brush which is about £50 seperate, I had that with my last Mielé and the Turbobrush is GREAT if you have pets.

I ended up going for this:

Miele C3 Powerline EXTREME
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Miele-Comp...ef=sr_1_1?rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1479680521&sr=8-1

£166

Can also be had here for £143.99

http://www.jccampbellelectrics.com/miele-c3-powerline-vacuum-cleaner.html

Notice the "EXTREME" :D

That means it is 1600w which is interesting as far as I know, no other C3 Powerline in Europe is above 1200w.

The basic cleaner is therefore BETTER than what you get with the Cat and Dog.

Buy the Turbo Brush seperately for £50:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Genuine-Va...=1479680973&sr=8-4&keywords=miele+turbo+brush

Works out a few quid more than the Cat and Dog BUT you have an extra 400w of power which for the Mielé cleaners will make a difference as they run well at 1200w so 1600w should be ace.

My last one was 2200w alas, European regulations ban such beasts now to make manufacturers squeeze all the performance they can.

If you want, you can fit the same filter the cat and dog uses so you effectively have a "Cat and Dog" but with an extra 400w of power :D

Hope that helps.

Also, as a curve ball...

Take a look at this...

AEG AUC9230 UltraCaptic Remote Deluxe Bagless Cylinder
https://www.amazon.co.uk/AEG-AUC9230-UltraCaptic-Bagless-Cylinder/dp/B0188V4QMU/ref=cm_rdp_product

Only 800w but is supposed to be very efficient.

I see the Cat and Dog one says this on the Rainforest - By using the EcoTeQ floorhead this vacuum cleaner gives you the performance of a 2000 W model using only 1200 W - Could it actually be better than the extreme if it's only 1600 and does not perform as efficiently?

That is marketing poo poo.

If the EcoTeq head gave 2000w of power, why give the turbo brush?

The thing is, for carpets, the turbo brush is a million times better anyway and will suck more on the 1600w compared to the "Cat and Dog" 1200w.

By the same token, sticking the EcoTeq head on the extreme will give you 2400w?

I do not need the EcoTeq head as for carpet, the Turbo brush is better. For laminate/wooden floors, the included standard head is fine.

Great thread sounds like the V8 is not fully overall worth it especially for the price. Someone above said they got 25 mins out of a full charge also but website claims 40mins, so bit odd that but it makes sense since most cordless units are around 20mins.

I use a normal wall plugged vac once a week and currently use a manual floorsweeper in-between days, but its clear I need something to lift the actual dirt.

Gone for this vac to give it a go but if its not good its going back

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vax-TBTTV1...UTF8&qid=1479743910&sr=1-13&keywords=dyson+v8

Claims to be 175 quid savings, but if you buy an box dented/used from amazon direct you can get black friday 20% saving making it around 85 quid, not bad for something that cost 300 quid.

Again no idea if its any good but will get it next week and find out then.

If I was going for a "stick" VAC, it would be this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Shark-Ultr...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=TTCRHG1DMGF96W2PDM34

Mains power>Battery ALTHOUGH I do understand that is personal preference.

In my opinion, the V8 is fine if you are in a flat with 2 people. For a young family with 3 children and medium-high pile carpets, you just need more suck :D

Gave the Mielé a run round this afternoon.

Feels much much lighter than its 2200w cousin and with the Turbo Head, cleans and lifts the carpet just as well in high traffic areas.

Got the Mini Turbo brush for the stairs... that thing is AWESOME, albeit loud.

Love me Meile C3, I'm a big fan of bagged as it is just a straight swap no filters getting clogged up and requiring servicing/replacing like the bagless jobbies!

Yeah I know everyone says go for the corded models since they are better at cleaning and more powerful overall, but the wire is just a plain nuisance and makes it very hard to clean.

Looks like most use a basic one for daily use and the corded one once or twice a week.

Gonna give this cordless vac a try its due soon, if its not good will happily send it back for a refund and go for one of those shark models they look pretty good.
