E-Cigarettes in the work place.

My office wouldn't allow it, so I still have to go outside. Which is balls when it's raining as I get worried about water getting into my box mod. :(

The resident HR lady made a good case to head office for me, but was almost immediately overruled by the most senior member of staff in the office who -- funnily enough -- was in the middle of trying to quit cigarettes.

Me too it was amusing :D

I once had a lady give me this disgusted look as an errant cloud of vapour moved towards her, only to be replaced by confusion as the faint blueberry scent entered her flared nostrils. It was a private victory, but it made me feel good.

A friend of mine at work says he has used it on a plane before and nobody said any thing

I would certainly check with the airline/staff first! Maybe in 1st class, but I can't imagine explaining to the whole of economy how I'm just having a vape, not lighting a shoe-bomb :p That's the main reason I don't vape on my commute. Couldn't be arsed to explain every day.

according to him he just starting vapeing away and nobody mentioned it.

I wouldnt have a problem with that to be honest he sits and vapes red bull flavour every time I see him in our control room.

I'm not slating e-cigs or tarring them with the same brush as smoking tobacco, I just like to err on the side of caution because of all the unknowns.

E-cigs got me off tobacco products and I continue to use one on a low dose almost 4 years after stopping smoking. It's done me lot of good; no more bad cough with every cold, bad smell from smoking, stopped having regular headaches, and feel a hell of a lot better.

I would welcome proper research and regulation which would improve wider public perception of the products and most likely improve uptake and the health of smokers who choose to move to them.

Like I said I just choose to err on the side of caution until reputable research and regulation are in place. As such I choose not to use mine around other people especially children, my own included. I take responsibility for taking my own risks and prefer not to risk others where there are unknown or unresearched quantities.

My other half's using one at the moment but as mentioned above seems to use it more than normal due to not having to go outside to use it, because its safe and probably most valid, because theres no finite amount of time/use per use so no in built countdown to stop.

Yep. I find myself hardly able to put it down when I'm at home.

A combination of loads of factors, really... weaker nicotine intake, lack of stench, variety of great flavours, no irritation from smoke in the air, no irritation to throat, and no built-in "stop now" timer such as when your cig simply runs out (unless the batteries die, but then I always have charged spares).

Ban hot drinks too, i dont like the vapor they produce.

:D

This is the point I make to those people who don't understand what vapour is and look at you as if you are still inhaling a wildly dangerous substance and are lying to ourselves.

I was told I couldn't use it in a pub once, I politely pointed at their dishwasher which was under the bar and pouring out steam as it'd just been opened after use and asked if they were afraid of that too.

Really surprised some places ban these from the office. To my mind that would be a greater insentive to quit and you could work at the same time.

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest if someone used one near me.

I've tried these and they hurt my lungs. I know it's supposed to be "just water vapor" but it feels wrong. Worse than cigarettes in some respects. Maybe I'm just not used to them.

Take a non-smoker, give them a back of 20 Marlboros and asked them to smoke them all in one day and see if they don't come back with chest pains and a sore throat.

The point is your body takes time to adjust to a new input. Most people who start vaping are smokers who swap one for the other straight away which is basically the same as the scenario I suggested above.

Just because you've smoked so many fags your lungs and throat are used to it doesn't mean you can inhale something else (like vapour) and expect to just be used to that to.

I didn't suffer any negative effects (apart from a bit of a dry throat at first) but if you do either keep going and you're body will quickly adjust or phaze it in over time swapping one fag for one vape a day until you are solely on the e-cig.

Also Depends on the base used for the e-juice, you may be sensitive to PG based fluids and might want to try a VG based one.

PG is used for throat hit and is a known irritant when inhaled, VG is much smoother and gives more visible vapour.

I prefer the VG myself smoother and the increased vapour is more satisfying psychologically for me personally, but some find the throat hit more satisfying etc.

Also i vape pretty much wherever i feel like, never asked anyone for permission cos if you do they will be committed to giving you the PC / Heath and safety answer which is more likely to be a no than if they just see you and ignore it.

Places include - work, office meetings with management, driving, in A&E once, supermarkets, Petrol stations when filling up.. pretty much everywhere.

That just sounds like you are doing it in places that you know people might have an issue with.

Petrol station while filling up? Really? You really needed to do it then?

Are people actually using them to quit though? Or just fill in the gaps between real cigarettes? If they're genuinely being used on a timed schedule to help quit then I'd be inclined to say they should be allowed.

I hate working with people that smoke (proper ciggies obviously), nothing worse than the stink of them when they come over to your desk. Thank god my new job bans smoking on site \o/.
