sorry for the daft question

am i at the right forum?

i want to build a couple of ecommerce sites, have looked at 1&1 to host. does any one have any experience

i have used ebay shops etc for about 2 years .think their charges are fair but am sick of their feedback system and unreasonable buyers.

1st site selling model cars,taps,showers

the 2nd site will have 1000 original press launch photos of cars all one make.all free download for wallpaper.

is 1n1 the way to go or should i pay someone to set it up? with the updates done by me.

is this post in the right place. is their an ecommerce forum

any advice welcome

For hosting, personally I wouldn't use 1&1, i'd go with vidahost or tsohost, in my experiance not only cheaper but much better service etc etc

Do you have any web development skills or are you willing to learn? If yes to either take a look at either oscommonce or zen cart as they are exactly what you need.

If no to either, pay a freelancer to set one up for you.

And yes this is the right forum.

Thats great many thanks,

1n1 now in the bin.

yes i am willing to learn, but as this is a long term proposition i will need a freelancer without doubt.

what is the best way to find one?

Your biggest problem is going to be getting traffic, make sure you set aside a budget for SEO and/or Pay Per Click advertising. You also need to think who you are going to use for taking payments, either stick with PayPal (still have unreasonable terms with regards to people getting their money back), pay through the nose for something like WorldPay or go the full hog and get a merchant account with a bank and use someone like SagePay or PayPoint.NET.

thanks for the input, i want to avoid paypal if possible.i was going to budget for adwords etc but unsure how much to allocate. i hope to turnover about 10K per month with 30% margin
