Item: Antec MX-1 with WD5000AAKS
IF connected via USB then no problem other than slower than if SATA.
IF connected via E-Sata then seen or not seen in device list but not in Windows where the other drives are seen.
IF I turn the power to the E-sata case on or off then it locks windows.
Any ideas?

What board or controller are you using for the other end of the eSATA connection?

eSata port on backplate came with eSata case.
That connects to a Sata connector on the motherboard.

No built in eSata with this board(Abit KN9 Ultra AM2 NF5)
Without installing Sata drivers from motherboard CD after windows then Sata drives are seen as IDE and work.
There are no Sata drivers to install from disk as part of install.
Controller I guess is the same(on chip)as the rest of the Sata connectors.

It seems that the MX-1 does not like NVidia chip sets.

Your PC freezes as you probably dont have AHCI enabled (supports hot swapping). Turn your PC off, plug in your e-sata cable and power on the external HDD then turn your PC on.
