?? Is it just pot luck which is better for clocking or is one usualy the better type???

was going to go for the 2140 as is over £10 cheaper???

AFAIK they will clock about the same. Personally I would go for the 2160 with the higher multi.

I went for E2140 cos I was saving a tenner, also easier to say 100% oc :D

I don't think you'll be disappointed either way, 3Ghz+ for £50/60 = win!

I remember was it paragdim (sp?), only noticed a marginal improvement from e2140 to e2160, under 100Mhz when clocked.

I've seen e2160s at 3.3 and 3.6, I had mine at 3 but didn't really push it beyond that.

I'd go for the e2160, but they're both brilliant chips and the best vfm core 2 duos available.

Go for the 2140. £10 cheaper and usually clocks far enough such that you won't notice the difference between max 2160 clock and max 2140 clock in most of today's applications.

I'd say the e2160, because if your motherboard wont allow a high enough FSB, then the 2140 will clock lower. just my 2 pence

There used to only be £5 different in price between these two, which made the 2160 a no-brainer.

They both have a cpu FSB wall of around 400 (without extreme cooling) in case you were wanting more than 3.2Ghz from the 2140.

I would have to agree with this as I have recently bought a e2140 and regretted not getting the e2160 because of not being able to achive a very high fsb :(

I've got 400FSB on the P35C-DS3R. What did you get?

*** do you think i can get my E2160 up to im at 3Ghz at the min and my cooler is a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro

who knows.. dont know the rest of your hardware, the settings you have set in the bios, the temps you are getting... all chips are different, some clock well, some dont..

To Daveccc: get the e2160, gives you the extra multiplier incase you cant hit a decent FSB, and it's only a tenner more...

at 3Ghz i get 36 to 38c with no load and 63c with full load
and my mobo is a ds3
and my settings or fsb =335 x9

360 max, however someone suggested there could be "holes" in the fsb that are not usable so maybe something higher might work but 375 and 400 deffinatly didnt. Oh and it was in my other system with a EVGA 650i board not my main system in my sig.

My E2140 clocks well but my mobo (965-DS3P) wont go above 390 so the higher multi for an extra £10 is well worth it.

Thats unusual for that mobo.

Are you sure you have taken your ram out of the equation?
