if you a reader of cpc then you might seen in the latest over clocking guide they said to over volt this cpu to 1.5v which is kinda high. and i was wondering should i over volt by that much? i thought after 1.45v it starts to degrade or die faster or something....
 
it's 45nm chips(e8***/Q9****) that degrade above ~1.4V

give your cpu as many volts as it needs.

result... next ram/fsb over clocking :D btw the temps seem to be fairly even between the 2 cores if i lap the cpu the temps will lower right? and whats the advantage of lower temps? longer life?

o yea how do you lap a arctic cooling freezer 7 pro? the little plastic clips that goes on mobo gets in the way of the flat surface don't it?
 
I wouldn't bother lapping it. You'll will gain very little since the IHS appears to be very flat. As for the ACF 7, I'm not quite sure. The legs mean that you can't be sure of getting it flat. I've one sitting beside me and you could file your nails on it :/

The advantage of lower temps means you can push it further ;)
 
okay a few question about ram timing i never under stood these..... i manage to get it to

at 814Mhz
okay i think thats pretty much what its suppose to do.

but now except for those 4 timings i found the following times i can change and i would like some one to tell me what they are and should i be messing around with them

TRFC @ 38
TWR @ 12
TWTR @ 12
TRRD @ 12
TRTP @ 12

also i tried booting with 466mhz fsb and 7 multiplier and it just kept restarting till i cleared cmos. i assume the board can't produce that speed, but what if i up the VTT FSB or north bridge voltage, and these set on auto so if i was to manually set it what voltage should i try?

finally what voltage should i set the south bridge I/O and Core? or leave them on auto?

btw any one know why when i up fsb and lower multiplier the temps dropped?

I would leave the other timings alone. The have only a small effect on performance, but changing them can have a large effect on system stability.

The E2*00 range usually won't go past 425-430mhz, with a lot of them crapping out as low as 370mhz. But certainly try 410x8 to see if it's ok. Northbridge voltage won't help it, but upping the VTT voltage might a little.

And you can leave the Southbridge voltages as they are.

okay i guess i can start playing with fsb: ram ratios :D hope u stick around a bit o yea how do those timing help with stable my system? increase value or decrease to make more stable?

any any idea about temp drop?
 
Increase and decrease to make more unstable. You can play with them if you want, but you could be there for the next month trying to get them right. They're fine as they are.

The only real way to get the temp down is to either reduce the vcore or improve the cooling.

but before i lowered multiplier and increased fsb the temp was reaching 60s and after i lower the multiplier and increased the fsb they around 55 any idea why the quite a big drop in temps?

and 410 fsb was stable currently running orthos on 411
 
Go to 413x8 (3.3ghz) and run Orthos overnight to see if it's really stable.

dude this over clocking stuff just confused the crap out of me... i found:

on multiplier 9
fsb is 363 making it 3.267Ghz is max unstable after that....


but on multiplier 8
so far i got it to run at 425Mhz making it 3.4GHz!!! and after 5 mins later of orthos i might be able to go even higher!

this is so weird i thought it would stop around same speed on multiplier of 9.
 
right now my ram is set to 2.1v which is what the sticker said, but is it okay to over volt by 0.1v?


o just found 425 not stable so i lowered back to 420 i report back my findings later...
