I wouldn't exactly call myself a wizz with a spanner, and there really wasn't that much learning to do in order to become very familiar with the car, the layout, and the most common of work. Going further than that, being faced out of the blue with one 3-series, and one engine that need mating together, it took 3 of us who had no real 3-series experience, a whole bank holiday weekend to get a running car.

Other than bodywork (and engine out jobs if you don't have the room to keep a rented engine hoist), I really can't find anything on the car that "needs" someone else to do the work. Its not as if there is a warranty to maintain by getting the book stamped.
