E39 2003 2.2 problem

got the engine light come on today, car was warmed up as been out for a while.
i have attached some pics that i got from inpa.

if anyone can advise me of the issues i would be massively greatful.

oh and when i restarted the car the missfire had gone but i know it will be back.

Check your coil, lead and connections on cylinders 2+3 as a first point of call

hmmmm just reading about blocked cats.
i had noticed a slightly different exhaust noise when driving around, also a slight loss of power a few days before this happened.

just took it out for a good blast and no hicups no issues. hmmmm

Sounds like the same issue that's plagued my e39 530i, engine note change along with it being apparently fine at other times, still not quite cured mine although it's a lot better and the light hasn't been on for a few weeks now (famous last words!)

I changed my coils with known good ones to no effect alas. :/

Must say though when mine loses power it's a dramatic loss, yours doesn't sound so severe.

Check intake adjuster and elbow for air leaks. Can cause all sorts of phantom codes.

Have you checked the rubber intake boot for rips or tears, it might be letting unmetered air into the engine?

Did check the intake. The Hoses look like they have been changed in the past. They did look fine but will check again tomorrow.

I'd say that's a symptom not the cause. Sooty plugs are caused by running too rich so it could be the MAF isn't metering properly.

MAF was nice and clean, cleaned it anyways.
no missfire and no error codes stored.

not sure what else to try for the rich running.
