We bought an e46 330d sport touring today, has pretty much everything I can think of bar the sunroof on it. (Pics to follow)
Got it for an excellent price, because the seller basically had no clue what it was worth, he had just bought a porsche Turbo of some sort and just wanted to sell the car.

Am I the only one that thinks the handling of these cars is vastly superior to the e39s?
The cabin isn't as comfortable as the E39 but its ok.
I was amazed at how differently it handled compared to the E39.

Yes. Drove both back to back, it was slightly better. It wasn't vastly superior.

How many more diesel BMW's is your Dad going to buy you? If your posts are to be believed this is now the THIRD he has bought you

I think Fox has special powers and can smell a BMW thread before its written? :D

But back to the point.. as a 325i SE E46 owner myself I can agree they are better! ;)

Vastly better...not in my opinion. Better, yes. I found the E46 I drove to be lighter, more agile and have better steering.

It's not mine, it's his.

Cost 12,750

"vastly superior" is a bit of an overstatement, but it is a lot more chuckable.

Must be a pretty good handler then, I recently bought a 530d SE Tourer, but it had the M-tech suspension, handling, lowerin option fitted as a factory option.

Could tell within 30 seconds on the test drive that it was 'different' to my previous bmw. Firmer and very 'tight'. Done 2k since I bought it, and its great on the back roads, can really throw it into the corners, and it feels like its glued to the road.

I've managed to scrape the mudflaps once or twice (The car is good and low)

I really think the E39 sports have great handling, My boss had (and still owns come to think of it) an 850CSI, and to be honest I think the E39 tourer can keep up with the 850 through the turns. (although the CSI's v12 just leaves me in the dust on the straights)

E39, and E46 tourers are great fun to drive, and are almost as practical as a Volvo! Now all I need is a dog :) Looking forward to your pics.

Girls prefer Saloons. FACT.

My GF prefers horses, and the tourer adds so much potential for carrying horse food :). Wasnt sure she would like the 'sportyness' of the M-tech suspension, but she's driven the car now, and appreciates the grip in the bends :)

Doesn't sound like he sold it at a major unreasonable price. Worth nothing that all tourings came with sports suspension regardless of spec. Don't know why, they just did. I'm guessing for that price it was what 2002, 2003 maybe newer?

Dunno about E46 tourers, but the E39 SE Tourers dont seem to have the sports suspension as standard. Most seem to have self levelling, but not the full sports setup.

E39's don't, perhaps E46's do. The only non-Sport E39's to have standard fit Sport suspension are the 97 onwards V8's.

I think the extras made the car a good deal, if it was standard, it would be nothing special.

Gotta love extras on second hand cars. One of the 'many' options fitted to my E39 was 'Comfort Glass'.

My E34 didnt have Comfort glass, and after a day in the sun, the steering wheel would burn your hands, the seats would be so hot that after 5 minutes you were a sweating mess.

But the new car, WOW. Parked all day in the sun, hop in, and its 'slightly warm' inside. The seats are comfortable and the steering wheel is comfortable to hold. I would never have imagined how effective heat reflective windows would have been.

Oh, thats what comfort glass is, I thought it was just a fancy term for the tinted screen, the e46 has that.
