E46 - Enabling Autolock When Going Over 10mph

I had the autolock feature before taking my E46 into BMW the other week, now since they've fixed my parking sensors, I've lost it.

Not sure whether it's worth getting it fixed or not, anyone else tried that fix above? I'll give it a go tomorrow.

They've obviously reset the GM5/LSZ module which has reverted to factory settings. Autolock is not a default setting and has to be coded in at an owner's request.

If you know someone with the Carly app and the OBDII dongle then they can re-enable this for you in 5 minutes. Alternatively take it back to BMW and say you had the option before, now it's gone, so they must put it back. Otherwise they will charge you the £40 or so coding fee.

What would be the law on this? Law says reasonable force. Is driving off reasonable force if he happens to be in the way? What if he then dies?

I guess it would be seen as:

What would a "normal" person do in the same situation?

In which case, I'm pretty sure most people - if someone tried to car jack them - would drive off and if the attacker was in the way then unfortunate, but that's one of the risks of being a scumbag.

I would imagine it would depend on how you acted afterwards as well - if you stopped and phoned an ambulance (obviously after 30 mins of "getting over the shock of the incident" ;)) then it would be looked on far more favourably than if you just drove off, or reversed over them to make sure!

However, IANAL!

Thanks mate.

I'm not even sure it's a feature I need/want, but it just feels like I've been robbed of it :D

I quite like it and I've got into the good habit of pressing the lock button on the centre console whenever I stop to unlock all the doors before an unsuspecting passenger tries to yank the whole door handle off in a panic. I also play a game where I see how far I can travel without the doors locking as I join the queue of traffic straight out the office car park. I'm not a cool person.

This. Carly is great and you can mess about with a load of useful (and useless) functions such as allowing your wipers to finish their cycle after turning off ignition, likewise for windows when you open the door, coding of adaptive brakelights etc. Well worth the money.

There is no way of enabling auto locking without some kind of device despite some websites describing procedures for other cars.
