E46 wipers

I did say this earlier! Halfords do not stock compatible blades

Actually yes they do! I spoke to another guy over there today and he said BOSCH do BMW compatible ones so he let me take one out and try it, needless to say the BMW original adapter (pictured in my hand) did not fit on the BOSCH blade (it was way too big) but the BOSCH one fitted like a glove on the arm.

It's one of those over and hook then clip ones, I have taken 2 pics to show you what I mean.

The Valeo ones were too loose and the blade holster at the bottom of the wiper arm did not catch the Valeo blades properly but the BOSCH ones are 100% perfect!

I got a 24" for the drivers side and a 20" for the passenger.

BTW the default e46 wiper for drivers side is 23" but I noticed there is just over a whole inches worth of extra headroom making 24" an ideal size for maximum wipeage (wipeage??)

My local Halfrauds didn't stock them either, I thougt that it was because it was a small store. I then tried some on-line retailers who also said they didn't do E46 wipers as they are very specific to the car.

In the end I was surprised to find that the BMW dealer only charged £24 for a set so might be worth giving them a try to save hassle with adapters and so on.

Read upsies mate! I found ones that fit :p

it also looks like the BOSCH bracket is standard fit for the blade on the Valeo bracket too so when I change these BOSCH ones in the future I will keep the bracket since it fits perfectly. Will keep the BOSCH though to see how they perform over the next few months.

Ah sorry about that, note to self to read thread before posting. Had glanced at the thread yesterday but didnt read the update since then. :o

No problems! on another handy tip for car care, I was recommended peanut butter by my dad to use on my bumper trim areas as some parts had light marks on them which seem to have appeared recently (cyclists? other cars? who knows) and nothing else I tried could remove them.

I don't know how but peanut butter got the trim back to black in no time after a few rubbings with a half-role of tissue!

Peanut Butter Jelly Time!

Funny you should say that I seen someone mention that on the BMWLand forum, will keep that in mind. At least no one in my house eats peanut butter so the jar will be full come car wash time. :)

Just been thinking is this a Motors forum or a food addict forum? first everyone wants a loaf of bread on the bonnet and now peanut butter on the bumpers, whats next?, Jam on the engine.... :D

It would be more awkward if you had tramps that slyly went round licking your bumper :p

Yeah, I got mine from my dealer in the end after trying 2 different Halfords stores and failing. Thing it was £30 for a set which is a reasonable price. You can just get the blades if you want to save £20.

Smooth or cruncy peanut butter - serious question :p

Right, going to have to be BM only, PIAA's fit, but on the drivers side has an extra attachment which fits into the BM arm. I fitted the PIAA's but as soon as you switched them on outside edge comes out of the catch.

Going to cut my losses and get some stealers on Monday.

Very irritating.

The standard clip by the way is C5

Bit of thread revival here...

Just got some new wipers for my e46 330 sport from my local BMW dealership after not fancying halfrauds... and one of them broke on the first go, on the dual carriageway!

I rang the dealership when I got home, and the guy in parts said he should be able to replace it! Am I wrong for hoping for an apology, perhaps???

Just buy the rubber bits, replacing the whole carrier is needlessly expensive unless the old one has an issue with it. "Rethreading" them is a very quick and easy task, it just unclips one end and slides out of the guides.

I replaced the (rather substantial) wipers on my Mercedes S430 for £3.50 for some bosch 28" refills from a local motorfactors - there is no need to pay any more.

Maybe you did not fit them correctly, find it hard to believe a wiper from new can break?

The clip was still attached to the main wiper stalk, but the clip had completely snapped where it attaches to the wiper blade. I was very surprised too!

I also managed to attach the main drivers blade without incident.
