e5200 or e7200?

The E5200's can get as high as 4Ghz. I have one on the way (not from here though) for my second pc. However, i am going to stick it in my main rig and see how far i can get under water cooling. I will do a load of benchies comparing it directly to my E6600 and also some comparisons to a E4300, Q6600 and a E8500. Hope to be posting by the end of next week.
The 4Ghz may have been an engineering sample, most people are maxing out at 3.6ghz unless they have a high-end board and watercooling.
I can't get above 3.4Ghz no matter what settings I use, and the temps are always fine.
I'm just not sure if the 400mhz offers advantage over the 4MB cache of my old E6550 @ 3Ghz though.

It was a retail cpu in a Rampage Formula using a TRUE. I will see if i can find the review again.
Hopefully i will be able to answer your last question by the end of next week.
Just got a E7200 this morning and it's a great cpu, got it running at 3.5ghz with stock volts. Did get it up to 3.8ghz with a small increase in volts and it was stable but temps were quite high.
This is using the stock cooler. I'm sure it would overclock further if I got a good one.

Well even then, that £130 more than I spent on my mobo, so for the same cost I could get an E8600
My thoughts also.
My E6320 will do 3.4Ghz and if the E5200's will generally go to 3.4Ghz on air, I dont see the point in getting one, especially as I currently have 4mb cache.
Looks like I'm still banging my head against my desk at to whether i'm getting a Q6600 or an E8400.

After i have done all my benching on my main rig i will be sticking the E5200 in my second pc to see how far i can get it on my bargain £35 Biostar TP35D2-A7 with a Freezer 7 Pro.
A E5200 would'nt be a good upgrade for you anyway as what you may possibly make up with clockspeed you will lose because it only has 2mb of L2 cache. If you mainly game then a E7200/E8400 would be the next step for you. Personally i would stick with what you have. I have no intention of getting rid of my E6600 for some time yet. It does 3.8Ghz but is clocked at 3.6Ghz for everyday use. The minimal performance gain was'nt worth the extra voltage.

Yeah it is gaming mainly but FSX is making my Credit Card twitch as I need more CPU power now.
Its all mixed feeling as to whether Quads actually makes a difference in this game which is making the decision between the E8400 and the Q6600 so hard. Especially now that the current Quads are not clocking well.
