Experienced similar RAM problems with the G41MXE. It needs low density RAM. Low density RAM is uncommon these days. High density sometimes works and sometimes it shows half the ram installed. Mostly, it just wont boot. Dual rank RAM also gave me problems sometimes when installing two modules. RAM that has "1Rx8" etc is single rank "2R" is Dual Rank (there's Quad rank also..."4R"). A motherboard has a set number of ranks. A 2R RAM module uses 2 of those Ranks. If you motherboard only has 4 Ranks, then 2x 2R modules are the maximum that will work properly.
I've also found that the Motherboard detects the wrong timings for some RAM. And anything on auto set's the RAM above spec. Putting in a slow RAM module first, then adding the problematic one forces the second to also run at the slower speed and higher timings.
