Hi guys Ive got a 2005 Bmw 530d M Sport auto, its done 130,000 miles

few queries about the box

1) If the car is in 2nd gear at low speeds and I floor the accelerator there is quite a bad jerk before it goes into 3rd, it may also do it going from 1st > 2nd but i mainly notice it in 2nd > 3rd. also does it when going from 3rd to 2nd - Any ideas??

2) If im at the lights stopped, and I put it in D or DS (sport) then floor the accelerator the car hardly moves for a good second then it seems to pick up abit then shoot off quickly, this doesnt feel right at all - Any ideas??

3) When using the tiptronic it takes ages to change feels completely pointless even using it, my mate said this is normal but just feels pointless if its so slow to change

any ideas?? was planning on getting the fluid level checked and maybe changed this week or next, could this be the probem??

I knew this thread would come one day :(

haha yeh but this is a nice genuine car it was a company car upto 103k then next owner put 30k on it

its got full bmw history every stamp, apart from last stamp at a specialist

dpf says 120,000 miles remaining
brakes tyres ect all good all round

Sounds like the torque converter to me but bare in mind I know nothing about new cars.

Is the turning circle something that really is important in every day life?

no its just annoying to park I live in a col-de-sac which is narrow and my drive is awkward to get into in a fiesta its fine in an s60 its a nightmare

Doesn't to me. Software issue is what a dealer says when they dont know what the problem is, or its nearly new. This car is 7 years old, software doesn't just break.

He never said that it has suddenly broken? I assumed it had always been like it and he only just asked for advice about it now.

If my assumption is correct, it absolutely sounds like a software issue. I know this, because mine had some similar issues to the OP's which were almost 100% remedied by a software update. And I was running software that was only 2.5 years outdated at the time. If the OP's car has not had been updated since 2005, i am almost certain that the update would sort it out.

My auto gearbox wasn't very smooth when i first got it, and in sport/manual mode the shifts were horribly jerky. Fixed almost entirely with a software update.

This sounds like the "sticky brake" problem, otherwise known as "Neutral Idle Control." - Google it.

Again, it could be as simple as a software issue. I'm assuming the iDrive hasn't come up with any errors relating to the gearbox?

thanks gaygle ill make some calls today

idrive doesnt come up with anything

i bought this car off a forcourt so i can get my money back
