I know a supplier in the US so I can get either one of these, links not working and nor is anandtech by the looks of it, between the 2 theres a £30 difference, so cut to the chase

Link works just fine for me

2.59ghz @ 1.4v (1.32 stock) for the 6300
2.88ghz @ 1.35v (1.30 stock) for the 6400

Works now, an E6300 @ 2.5Ghz beats the FX-62.

AMD have got some problems...

There's another Conroe chip (E4300) that's going to be released in Q1'07 that will be even cheaper than the E6300. I wonder how well it will overclock. Here are the specs for comparison:

E6400 - 2.13GHz - 1066FSB - 2MB L2 Cache
E6300 - 1.86GHz - 1066FSB - 2MB L2 Cache
E4300 - 1.8GHz - 800FSB - 2MB L2 Cache

Thats what I am waiting for and some good clocking cheap motherboards (dont even have to be that good with an 800mhz chip). I want it to replace my 805

If I buy the E6300, apart from the Asus P5W-DH, what are my options with regards to motherboards? Im looking for:

1. a cheap 965 chipset based mobo as cost is a concern.
2. SLI/Crossfire is not important to me as I only intend to ever have 1 video card.
3. Overclocking is of course important.

Gigabyte DS3 is your only option really, although they arent 'cheap' they are cheaper

I had the same things in mind, my setup is to add a Conroe to my dedicated folding farm. So I have a pci video card, conroe E6400 (when it arrives

and an ASRockXfire-eSata2

I dont need crossfire, but apart from that the board looks good. Its a budget board and comes quite feature loaded. It will overclock but tops out (from what I heard) around the 300 FSB mark.

OK so its not going to be the top overclocker, sure, but it does offer at least a free upgrade to the next cpu up the ladder, if not more. check out the reviews.

OCUK has the board marked up for £51ex vat.

I bought the DS3. A benchmark by somebody on the xtremesystems forums suggest its about the same as the p5w in terms of performance/overclocking.

And if the 6300 overclocks that well with the stock heatsink then using a better one should easily get it on par with the 6700.

Yes, 9x multi

Up to 266 FSB and it is a 6600 all but cache
