Hi,

I have just had my first experience of overclocking !! wahoo

I have an e6300 and Geil pc6400 ultra low latency on an asus p5b deluxe/wifi, the cpu is cooled by a freezer 7 pro.

So, I started with the fsb at 333mhz and worked my way up to 400. Which i was aiming for as now my memory is running at its full potential at a 1:1 ratio with the FSB.

I have a couple of questions...

I am using a voltage of 1.3v at this overclock, is this ok or should it be stable with a lower voltage ?

also, the temps i am seeing are ~40c idle and about 52-54c under load (orthos for 30 mins), Do these look ok ? whats the temperature i want to start worrying at ?

How should i test this overclock if fully stable ??
i want to lower the voltage untill it becomes unstable then go back one !

any input would be great,
arge

Try & keep temps under 60C

Run Orthos for stability, only way to find out if you can get away with less volts is to give it a try ;)

good stuff .....its great isnt it when you know you are getting more for what you initially paid :)

you have great equiment as per previous forum posters you should be able to hit 3ghz stable...

as per the previous poster you can test your overclock is stable by running orthos or dual instances of a program called prime95.....

dont forget once you have overclocked the cpu and found the max overclock for your cpu then you should begin on the RAM to get that to run faster then it can....

when overclocking remember its important to have patience, and to try over and over again until you have maxed out both your cpu and RAM then run it 5 - 10 mhz below your maximum stable overclock...

theres lots of advice and help around here and all over the net from people who have exactly the same parts as yourself...

lastly dont forget to run 3dmark 06 and 3dmark 05 so that you can compare your results to people who have the same systems as yourself...

good luck....
