Hey, just received this cpu today along with the 965P S3 board. Could anyone link me a good overclocking guide for this combo since I can only manage to get 2.4ghz befor it refuses to post.

Thanks!

Edit: after some playing around (sensible playing :P ) I have achieved a stable 2.80ghz. How does this look? 50-55 degrees full load and 35-38 degrees idle, using stock heatsink.

My mobo doesn't read temps properly on anything other than Core Temp/TAT and usually the temperature from the Mobo sensor is about 20 celcius below the proper temperature, so it's likely your 35-38 degrees idle is more 50+ and your 50-55 load temp is probably about 70 something.

Use intel tat or dcoretemp to monitor temps.

2nd'ed

I used speed fan first of all and it was reporting my idle temps at 21 degrees, same as the motherboard was but Intel TAT reports it at 35....not sure which is correct but I am going with the TAT figures.

Also as a side note, TAT reports one of my cores about 5 degrees lower when under full load - Is this normal?

Same here - my bet is that one of the cores doesn't contact the IHS as well as the other one does.

I hope you have run Orthos for more than 5 minutes before deciding that it is stable.

And I agree - use Intel TAT for measuring CPU temps.

Orthos ran happily for >6 hours.....I think that would classify it as stable :D

i think he was refering to me :P

yeah i know 5 mins isnt really enough to determine weather its stable or not, it was just to stress the CPU while i measured the temps.
