So i got my new core duo today, and i decided to give it ago at overclocking!
but when i try and go above 280FSB with x7 multi the computer fails to boot and then reverts back to the old one. Anything below 280 is fine and boots ok. Currently im 1 1.96GHZ from stock 1.86GHZ.

The temp on max load is 29C so dont think its that. and ive updated my bios to the latest revision. Anyone got any ideas? im quite new to overclocking so have i done something wrong?

ive got a gigabyte DS3 board

Thanks a lot guys :)

Have you followed the overclocking directions in the DS3 thread as suggested by Easyrider? If you are using that recipe then you need to go back and make sure you haven't missed anything because those settings work. There isn't much magic to it. You just need to follow the instructions.

Sorry, but that's how it is.

Yeah, i missed the chipset overclock which seemed to do the trick. at 2.6ghz now. 29C on full load. im a happy chappy! :D

Glad to see you're off the mark. 2.8GHz is pretty much guaranteed with that combination, anything over 3GHz and you're doing very well indeed.

If you're using the Gigabyte tool, then the temperatures you're looking are nonsense I'm afraid. Do a google search for Intel Thermal Analysis Tool (TAT) and you'll find out how hot it really runs ;)
