hi there i just recently read a post which i cant find the link to which stated that when overclocking the E6300 past 2.8 u get a performance dip, or a memory dip unless u go up to 3.2.

anyone shed any light on this id like to go past 2.8 if possible my temps are pretty damm high tho 48c idle 63 with both cores fully loaded under TAT with a zalman CNPS9500 led and a room temp of around 22-25c

the voltage i set manually at 1.325v in the bios on the DS3 which is correct i presume?

also i had another question why are people running at lower voltages like 1.25v is this worth trying for me to lower my temps and hit 3.2?

i dont wanna blow cpu as it has to last at least a year until i get quad core. and there is a 8800gtx in there so a boom would be an expensive boom but i do need some more cpu power for the card as 3d mark 06 seems average at best.

3DMark Score 10551 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score 4847 Marks
SM 3.0 Score 4907 Marks
CPU Score 2440 Marks

ive seen ocuk jokester hit 8000 in the sm 3.0 score with a quad core @3.5 so it shows how much the 8800 can go with more cpu horsepower behind it.duno if he used lod tweaks tho.

help and suggestions would be appreciated here

I'm having similar issues my E6600 runs about as hot as yours...

I've been experimenting with my clocks & volts
I've had 12100 marks whilst running stock voltage @ 2.8 GHz (400x7)

However the temps got as high as 70 durring the 3d mark run
So i've set the Vcore to 1.45 and Mem to 2.1v

And temps are much better but 3d mark performance has plummeted the main difference is on the cpu test I was getting 5-7 fps then after changing the volts I'm only getting 1 - 2 fps

I'm guessing but I think my issue lies in the Vcore

12k

12k hmm on what dual x1950's? why am i not able to hit 11k on a 8800 gtx at 400x7 2.8 and 2gb of geil @ 4-4-4-12

i dont use rivatuner lod tweaks. and the card isnt overclocked.

any chance the psu might be struggling and not giving the gtx enough power tho i doubt it

tis a ocz gameXstream 600w with 2 PCI-E connectors both fitted and i read some reviews that say it peaks out at 700w so ? :/

also 1.45 vcore and ** temps hit 70 lol? im at stock voltage at 2.8

well seems unvolting is fine currently at 3080 7x440 5-5-5-15 and max tat of 63c with both cores which aint terribly bad imo i was at 64 at 2.8 with default 1.325 and i see gains v v little in the sm 3.0 score so im v happy :D

8800 gtx didnt get much of a boost in the 3.0 so im still stumped as to how jokester got almost 8k 3.0 :(

Strap change @ 400 FSB. Switches from 1066 strap to 1333. You loose quite a bit of memory performance and it takes ~ 40 FSB or so to make it back up again.

Temps wise, could be bad contact or you've just got a hot running CPU. (is it "B" code per chance?)

b?

how do i tell if its b?

btw jokester that cleared a lot up i didnt think u had sli i thought it was single card rofl.

thanks for clearing that up

cpu-Z shows revision b2 thats what u mean? and whats bad about b?

Check the box.
Look for "FPO/Batch" line. L6xxA/Bxxxxxx

it was an oem from ocuk so no box :)

Ok look for the line L6xxa/bxxxxx on the CPU's IHS then.
It's the last line :)

its already got heatsink on so thats outta the question, no other way of checking if its a b batch?
Nope

The performance is dropping because 1.45v is quite a lot above stock voltage (1.25-1.3v afaik), it will be throttling if it was 70c with stock voltage.!

No, the dip is due to the strap change.
70C isn't a problem, the CPU's won't throttle til 90+

ah nevermind then ill remember to take a look if i decide to get it re seated sometimes appreciate the help tho mates. prob just a hot runner but im as far as i can go right now neways i think 62c with tat is as far as id like to go and i cant get past 450fsb without default vcore which is too hot so i may let this baby sit until quad core goes mainstream.

The drop was when he raised the Vcore, not the FSB. The FSB was the same.

The guy himself didnt have the problem he read a thread which stated, above 2.8ghz there's a performance drop until ~ 3.2. Thats the range where the 1333 strap drops performance below the 1066 level @ < 400 FSB. Above this you start to see increased memory performance.

70 deg will NOT throttle the CPU. Trust me, I've orthos'd at over 70 deg before with no throttling issues.
