Just a few simple questions
I have a application that recommends a Pentium IV 3.0 GHz processor as you can see from sigi i have a allendale which is running at stock 2 X 1.86 GHz what i was wondering was how will the E6300 provide enough power to run the application without it crashing it has a higher FSB but as far as i understand both proccesors cant be used at once by the same application  anyone like to set me on the straight and narrow i would be gratefull.

The allendales are way more efficient than their pentium 4 counterparts. For example a stock 6300 is about as fast as a Pentium D at 3.7ghz. The higher frontside bus does play a small part in this.

Depending on the program it may or may not use both cores.

An application can only use both cores at once if it is programmed so that it has multiple concurrent threads which perform individual tasks seperately. A lot of programs (mostly games) only use one thread in which all the program's functions are carried out in a linear manner, so can only use one core at a time. (You can see how many threads a program has in task manager).

However, a single core of an E6300 is probably more powerful than a p4. GHz ratings don't really provide a way to compare different processors and a core 2 rating only really serves to compare core 2 processors to each other.

(not sure how it took me 4 minutes to write that...)

well the program is company of heroes but i was a little shocked at first that the recommended cpu was 3.0 ghz but i was unsure how the allendale would hold up if only one core was being used.

The GHZ rating applies to absolutely nothing these days, esp with the newer CPUs we have seen lately, so to be honest mate, I would not bother with them.

For example, an AMD even since the very first XP was a lot more efficient than its Intel equivalent, and even then games always say they require more than they really do!

As for the P4 vs Conroe thingy, I can say that up until this morning, Iwas a little crippled with my conroe having some seriously crippling and naff RAM, but even so, the conroe was way quicker than the P4

I have been comparing a 3.6GHz Prescot 660 against it, and the Prescot I have managed to get to 4.7Ghz ( Currently running nice and stable however, at 4.3 ) and it still cannot beat the conroe @ stock... Close, but no cigar.

Both Intels are on a Gigabyte DS3

The Prescot is a single core HT Chip, so sort of pretendign to be dual core, while the conroe is a true dual core.

So, going on this, and given that the P4 has to clock like a bugger to go lower than 30seconds on SuperPI, and that the Conroe is 29seconds at stock, I would say that the conroe 6300 starts off where the Best P4 ends up.

Or, in english, there is no stock P4 on the planet that is as fast as the slowest Conroe... And the conroes only get faster!

Like I said, mine has been crippled by the RAM, and I have been suffering badly for it, and just this morning a mate gave me some ram to try out and he said I can keep it, so thats great news, but it only means I run it at stock for now, and I have gained a good few seconds on just the RAM alone!

And there ability to OC is incredible, I'm using a £15 heatsink and it maxes out at 42c at 2.73ghz. I still haven't found the max yet and thats only with 667 RAM :)

My system seems fine @400fsb touch wood. I've got my 6300 at 2.8ghz...eat that FX chips! Even at stock it's around 5000X2 performance.

lool thats amazing, cant wait when my new mobo with 2.4ghz conroe will be delivered ! And about OC , mann bloody well i need to learn how to OC it later! First i propably will have problems with mobo instalation :/

Nah mate.

At Stock, your PC will already be faster than ANYTHING else on the market... Except a faster conroe.

Whatever speed you think you had before, you will not beleive the jump you are about to make... Its disgusting how quick they are!

I dont think you iwll need to worry too much about clocking it for some time yet.

what about hosting a game? you can have up to 8 players (4V4) do you think i could do that or should i OC  ive got a 6mb minimum internet connection so no porbs there.
