got the chance maybe of a change of mobo and cpu

at the moment have very limited funds but can swap out my old

ecs nforce 4 s939 mobo & A64 single core 3500

have the option to get

e6300 base model and very basic mobo with funds left, i am not into overclocking and have pc2700 to use as RAM

is it worth doing, if so what are the advantages

other than that i could go x2 4200 or something similar and keep the mobo

thanks

Yeah, most Core 2 Duo motherboards require DDR2 RAM, so you'll probably need to ditch your old DDR because it physically won't fit int DDR2 slots.

However, the Asrock 775-Twins-HDTV Rev 2.0 motherboard accepts DDR and DDR2 RAM, and will work with Core 2 Duo processors thanks to it's Ati Xpress 200 chipset. So you could use your PC2700 (although I'm sure it would prove to be a bit of a performance bottleneck) until you can get some DDR2.

If you decide to go s939 X2, move quickly because chips are becoming scarce.

I would go for an X2 because its going to be cheaper and they still perform increadibly well, you can probably overclock it a bit too. I would have gone for an X2 3800 if this last batch of 4000+ didn't overclock so well

Couldn't have said it better myself.
