Just got my E6600 and DS3 mobo and when I went into CPU-Z my multiplier comes up as 6X and speed is down as 1600mhz per core .....my temps are also 37 idle ..is all this correct has it got speed stepping or anything ?...cheers for any advice

It's todo with the Intel equivilent of AMD's "Cool 'n' quiet" I believe.

yep it's called speedstep, you can diable that if you wish, either in bios (on some boards aka DFI 975xgx), it's called C1E in DFI bios. Failing that you can use a software mod, it's over at xtremesystems...

Ah Cheers just run some progs while cpu-z was open and it does go to the 2.4 when needed ...can anyone confirm if my temps are fine or should i get another fan just using the reference fan at min thanx ...

Thats Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology at work, EIST for short. C1E is a sepereate feature, an enhanced halt state the cpu enters when the OS sends halt commands at idle.

Both features reduce the clockspeed to 1.6GHz when the chip is idling, EIST requires Windows power management awareness to function but C1E does not.
