E6600 Overclock, PC restarting.

I overclocked my new E6600 yesterday to 3.3ghz @ 1.4v. It ran fine all day and the temps seem fine (~30 idle, ~50 under load).

Late last night, the pc just cut out and restarted. Then again when I was asleep it did this. Unfortunatly the monitor was off (and I was asleep) so I couldn't see if it was a bluescreen or anything.

Any idea what would cause this?

Pretty common sign for unstable OC tbh. It happened to mine @ 3.25ghz and my previous X2 @ 2.66Ghz. Either increase the vcore or reduce the clockspeed.

Cheers, thanks for the info. I'll try putting the vcore up a notch.

what cooling are you using?

i'm running an e6600 on a DS3P mobo, cooled by a Noctua U12F HS&F and my load temps @ 1.4V are 58-60C

tbh, everyone seems to be running cooler than me but the heatsink is seated properly and the fan is on full (12000rpm)

at stock voltages i run 28 idle and 45 load which indicated to me the cooling is all working properly, but whack the voltage up to 1.4 and you know about it...

couldn't get 3.4 gig stable yesterday even at 1.475V but that ran at like 67C full load

any advice?

I'm using the scythe ninja, without the fan. But with the my case there are plenty of other fans next to it.

I'm not sure about your temps they're not too bad and are fairly close to mine.
Yesterday on the other hand I was getting ~75C at 3ghz under load. I had to reapply the AS5. I think I put too much on this time as well...

What stepping is that E6600? Needs a lot of volts that, mine does 3.4 at 1.325v, sure its not something else like RAM or mobo?

mine done the same at 2.97 with my E6300, its the memory overheating as i know my CPU was orthos stable for 8 hrs using blend. make sure you have good circulation over your memory, i had mine on for 3 days b4 it restarted

sorry what do you mean?

not too technical with all this what do you mean by stepping and how could it be the RAM or mobo? the ram is on slack timing @ +0.4V (since the ram is rated @ 2.2V) so it can't be that, i eased off the memory to make sure i was focused on the CPU...

in terms of the mobo all i've changed is added +0.1V to the chipset and fsp overvoltage settings...

Saikor, you running Orthos after the clock for several hours to test stability? You need to orthos it to know if its stable.

Get Orthos running for at least 8 hours (I would run it for 15hrs+ before I was happy with its stability).

If it passes that, then chances are you are all good... if it does randomly reboot after that, then it maybe a matter of overheating NB or something
