Im building a new computer and have pretty good specs..the best chip i can afford is the e6600.. i was sure on getting it till i read about the high tempretures from a lot ocuk forum members.. so is this chip worth getting..and is it worth its price.. also is this chip good for gaming as thats likely to be the soul purpose of my pc

no its not good. The temperatures are outrageous go for the amd 4800 x2 instead.

what?
E6600 is idling (stock) @ ~ 32 deg under stock cooler at the moment. Nothing wrong with those temps at all.
Certianly on par with my old X2 3800 under stock cooler/voltage.

Can i suggest before you post that you get your facts right and stop spouting rubbish making people make the wrong decisions when it comes to hardware.

Your statement is absolute rubbish, nonsense in fact.

The truth is the E6600 is a fantastc chip for gaming and destroys the the 4800 x2 in every single benchmark

The 6300 and the 6400 are both fantastic cpu's and can clock nicely.

The two chips to go for in the C2D range are the

6300
6600

all the others are a waste of money.

The conroes run cool, use little power, and can be overclocked iwth relative ease.

your not very good at sensing sarcasm

Your post was dead pan. There's nothing to indicate you were being sarcastic and it could easily be taken the wrong way....

<edit> And it seems others agree :p :p </edit>

like the original question, i mean really doesnt take much knowing the c2d is the best thing since sliced ham.

yeah kinda not the right thing to be putting when i'm askin for advice on something thats costing £200

what i meant by high tempreture for it was that some previous posts claim to be reaching around 54-55 which is definatly too high..i think i might stil go for it though

in the same way the netburst architecture was so successful 'buy this computer now and get the SUPER-fast intel pentium IV processor running at an awe inspiring 3.8Ghz and has a superfast 800!Mhz bus speed, as well as revolutionary hyper-threading technology, the pentium IV, the wiseman's choice ;) ' now compare it to this (and no smartarse comments like 'its obvious the athlon is faster, just read .... review and see for yourself' because not everybody looks and benchmarks or knows why the athlon was faster than the pentium) 'buy this computer with the acclaimed AMD athlon 64 processor, running at 2.6Ghz its sure to complete any task without much trouble, AMD, the honest company' now which of these would you pick 'DUUUH the pentium, market propaganda, they says SUPERFAST 3.8Ghz and people think (wait a second, thats much bigger number than 2.6 so it MUST be better) and may i state 99% of computer users bought the pentium IV because of this MISINFORMATION! doesn't take much to influence people, especially when there actually looking to be influenced, and anyone who asks these questions are extremely vunerable to people talking crap and making them buy something thats a waste of there money, so the moral of the story is? 'think before you speak' :p

54-55 isnt high at all. The chips are quite fine at 65. Infact they wont even start to throttle until they get quite a bit hotter than that.

Compare that to Nvidia chips which throttle at 120 degrees.

My old 486/33 used to run at 50-60 degrees really nothing has changed. Well, actually 1 thing has changed. Core2 has internal temperature sensors which are a lot more accurate than any other processor currently on the market. Many motherboards live in cloud cookoo land claiming 25 degree cpu temperatures even in rooms heated to 25 degrees, a virtual impossibility even with liquid cooling. Asus motherboards have been 10-15 degrees under for years, it just makes their owners feel happy.

when i first put my 6600 in ,started up and after about 40 mins checked temp in bios 80 degrees. it had throttled down to 1.6. thought ti was time to switch off and check h/sink
cheers

Oh dear, amazing how some people just have no sense of humour?

johnnyfive, it was obvious to me that you were joshing, but I do like deadpan/dry humour :) Your statement obviously caused some people to get upset? (don't ask me why??)

Easyrider, it would be better if you could manage to be polite and cordial when you post, these forums are meant to be friendly, oh and a sense of humour is always welcomed . . . :D

I know what your saying and all..but i am kind of new to the whole computer modding thing so i could have easily gone and bought that chip not knowing it would be a waste of money so that would be £200 down the pan which then makes it become not funny..so i see why people were complaining i just want advice on the chip,,

Yup sure, but as a general rule I suggest taking everything you read on these forums with a pinch of salt! :)

There must be over a thousand posts here about the e6600, I'm sure you have read quite a few, but it seems everyday someone asks the same question, maybe without taking the time to actually sit down and get some serious reading done, most of the questions asked have been answered many, many times before.

What kind of answer do you expect to these questions, I guess people will just give their opinion so I will give mine (not fact, just my opinion). The e6600 looks like a great CPU but it doesn't have enough 'extras' to make it worth almost double the price of a e6300, so no I don't think its worth the price. Yes the e6600 will be good for gaming but I think you will be hard-pressed to tell the difference between the e6300 and e6600 while gaming.

There are some new revision Core2 Duos appearing in a month or two so it will be interesting to see how they perform (and overclock), wouldn't wanna pay out £200 ish now on an e6600 to see its performance matched by a new £80 cpu . . .

What revision would that be? The only one that I am aware of is the 1333 fsb c2d range due out in q3 2007. Or do you mean the lower clocked 4000 range?

Sarcasm is difficult to understand over the net.

a "*sarcasm*" or even a subtle smiley works welll to convey sarcasm..otherwise people get confused.

Hi guys im thinking of buying a e6600 shall i buy it or not .i do like the sound of this new 4800 x2 it sounds very fast and has a nice high number so its like two times 4800 .much more numbers than 6600 .so can someone please tell me what to buy as im not sure anymore i want the best chip for me money .i have a DS3 mobo so i know this new 4800 x2 will fit it .and i have some PC100 ram to go with it .i think this would give me a good gaming system and future proof me for a few years .but i might need to change me TNT 32meg card in about a years time .
