If there was a remote chance this original poster would go out and buy a chip I suggested after just 1 reply then he deserves a 4800 X2

The original poster only has 22 posts he might be very new to all this .so lets say he did go out and buy the 4800 X2 .how bad would you feel about it johnnyfive

Oh dear, amazing how some people just have no sense of humour?

johnnyfive, it was obvious to me that you were joshing, but I do like deadpan/dry humour :) Your statement obviously caused some people to get upset? (don't ask me why??)

Easyrider, it would be better if you could manage to be polite and cordial when you post, these forums are meant to be friendly, oh and a sense of humour is always welcomed . . . :D

you'd think someone had just called his sister a wh0re huh?

some ppl in here are strung way too tight & too self righteous...it's a cpu ffs.

Thing is, if its not dead obvious (and judging by other peoples reactions it would appear it wasn't) then you could end up with a n00b stumbling over the thread (maybe via a google search?) reading that post and acting accordingly.

It's not hard to add <sarcasm> or end the post with a smilie or something to show you were being sarcastic. Just helps stop people get the wrong end of the stick.

how do you work that one out?

I will gladly correct people mistakes.

There are to many people on these boards providing others with misinformation(you Included).

The C2D mobo that you posted in springs to mind.

People buy the wrong hardware and as a result waste money.

If posting something with humour do it with finesse.

That was just not funny.

I know it may seem abit crazy, but some people probally just rely on the OcUK forums for valuable advice. Not everyone is fully aware of things such as what has been mentioned in this thread, thus providing false infomation no matter how silly it seems could end up making someones purchases a waste of money.

In my opinion providing false infomation on purpose should be a breach of the forum rules, I know it seems silly but at the end of the day its telling a pack of lies - you could be costing peoples hard earned money.

Back to the actual topic, all the Conroe CPU's are great in my opinion. I bought the E6600 because of the 4MB cache whether this justifys spending the extra compared to the E6300 is another debate. I guess a lot of the difference depends on what motherboard your going to use, some will overclock the CPU better than others.

I'm still debating which Motherboard to go for myself, I just cant make up my mind!

If it helps, my e6600 has been overclocked to 3.1GHz now since the day i bought it, probably some 2 months ago. Using an arctic cooler 7 pro thing, and temps are 45 degrees C right now at idle. probably shoot closer to 60 when gaming, haven't checked in a while, but that's really nothing to worry about.

oh and a slight aside about mobo choice: i went for the asus p5b deluxe. my mate got the 'other' asus, i forget the name someone here'll know, and got 3.4 out of the same chip.

My stock E6600 idles at 28-31 according to the BIOS, and the cores are only doing 40-41 according to core-temp, thats with an Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 pro only running at half speed of 1200rpms, they ain't hot at all. :)

mine aint hot either, bios is stating 20C majority of time, tho coretemp is saying 34C

Dont know what one to believe

Core-temp will be accurate as thats the actual cores, BIOS etc... only read the socket temp. :)

Any kind of proper research on this forum or anywhere would tell you that the post was untrue, it's purely up to the individual to validate what they read on the internet. We're never going to stop people being wrong, as well as making incorrect statements deliberately, so the researcher has the ultimate responsibility to confirm anything they read on the internet.

I fully agree with you their Robbie, but I dont think it really gives any excuse for people to deliberatly/purposly make false statements regarding hardware, if people took those statements as facts it would cost people money, as well as make these forums a joke, in which if not moderated to that point could give the actually moderators/OcUK a bad name which I dont think anyone wants, incuding myself. Just my opinion, I'm sure others will agree & disagree! maybe it seems abit extreme but still. . . . :)

I would like to see a moderators opinion on this or maybe someone from OcUK themselves regarding this matter, because I think its quite important.

I completely agree - without obvious sarcasm faces or being stated is just wrong not only for the OP who probably doesnt no (no disrespect intended) but also for casual browsers - yes it might "only" be a cpu but its also a big investment for most people

Also its probably a fine line but I prefer the E6400 to the E6300 for the extra multi's but either is pretty decent ( but wouldnt go for the E6600 if you have to compensate too much on something else)
