Hey guys

Will be doing my new build based around a core2duo, and i was spec'd a E6600, but with the price drops comming and new chips being released is this still the fave chip to go for? or is there a new favourite emerging? Based on the fact I will be overclocking it.

Ive read that the quad core is not needed for gaming and therefore the extra cores are a waste. I saw some new e6750 or somthing similar on the price drop list, is this a new model of the e6600?

Q6600 on July 22nd when their price will drop to the same price a the E6600. I wouldn't bother with anything above the E6600 dual core wise because they can easily clock to 3.6GHz and thats as much as you need. The New E6750 will be exactly (I think) the same as the E6600s but overclocked at the factory.

New games are slowly being optimised for multi-core so, in the future then expect an increase from the quad core, but not right now.

cheers jaffa, you always seem to be the answer to my questions. I should just pm you lol

I've found you normally need either watercooling or phase to get 3.6Ghz+ in most cases, but it has been achieved on air with low voltage, 3.4Ghz is easily achievable on air though and is more than enough. :) , All depends on wheather you get a decent stepping or not.

If you are sticking to a dual core then forget the 6600 as the 6750 is available now for the same price or less. Just make sure you get a mobo that can do 1333mhz.

well when you overclock it doesn't matter as mine is running on 1800mhz FSB.

Does this new chip have extra cache or is it just it's default FSB is 1333mhz?

As far as i know it's just got a 1333 fsb. Here's some details for you.

£182.13 inc vat.

E6750 Specification:

Bus Speed: 1333 MHz

Bus/Core Ratio: 8

CPU Family: Intel Core 2 Duo

CPU Speed: 2660 MHz

Form Factor: CPU

L2 Cache: 4096 KB

iintels pride drop statesthat E6850 should be $266 if i am not wrong, that would put it into the same price as the e660 is now in America.

so that would equate to about 140-150 for the e6600 in the uk hence E6850 should be about the same price.

Uk retailers are ripping you off is you pay anything over £150 for this chip.

Dude.. price drop has not happened yet, so they are still at that price for that reason.

i am talking about E6850 and E6750 their prices are too high but that could be just because they are not released yet.

yeh seen them for sale, but just not in stock. I reckon i will wait for penryn as i really don't see me getting much performance advantage over my current cpu.

We always pay more than everyone else anyway so it's a waste of time comparing to Intels suggested prices. That's probably per 1000 units anyway.

£182 really is not bad for a 3ghz C2D.
