E6600 Temp Issues ?

Just built a new PC (see sig) and my E6600 seems WAY TOO HOT compared to other peoples.

It Idles at about 52 and goes up to 68 under load in TAT.

the nvidia monitor claims 47idle, 52 load

coretemp claims the same as TAT.

I have re-seated the (stock) HS about 5 times, with fresh AS5 each time, and it just won't go any cooler :(

anyone got any sugestions ? Can the stock HS really be this bad?

i know from the past that not having enough juice in the PSU can cause CPUs to run hot, is this the case with C2D processors ? I am using a Tagan 480W (U01).

on the bright side i am not getting any errors.

also, what should be the stock voltage? the mobo autos it at 1.35

Stock volts is around the 1.2v-1.25v mark, 1.35v im stable on 3.6ghz :o

Its a waste of a good motherboard using a stock cooler, you may have well just got a cheaper mobo.

the cooler is just a temporary measure, i have a skythe ninja that won't fit in my case :(

thanks for the tip, i shall lower the voltages and see if that cools a bit.

hehe, i have ordered a zalman 9700, should clear my case by a few millimetres.

i have a collermaster wavemaster, and i have heard that temps will drop 10 degrees if i get a bigger case.

i wonder if the 6600s (conroe) run hotter than the 6300 & 6400s (Allendale) anyway ?

my other rig runs 10 degrees cooler when i put it my old tower steel case which is like a bloody garden shed! an athon XP idling just over 30 degrees, now that is a turn up for the books!

get a scythe ninja cooler.

i have one Fanless and idles at 28c and full load at 45c (room temp 17c)

which is impressive for a fanless cooler

thanks for the update!

have you fitted the little fan to the heatsink between the PCie and CPU ? that should cool your MCP more.

can you let me know what TAT says once you've installed ?

but that does sound like a massive improvement!

i am thinking that the little fan is causing my cpu temps to be high, as you say it pushes that air straight onto the CPU

Confused me too.. my e6600 stock votage is at 1.35v according to both the box it came in and on the bios.

Plus i have a similar problem to this too.

My PC won't post at 3.4Ghz if its under 1.425v (well actually it will but it won't be stable).

According to Core Temp and TAT, my cpu idles around 45-50c idle when clocked at 3.4Ghz which seems rather high together with watercooling.

I'm still undecided whether to lap my CPU or not. 'Will it really make a difference' and 'It'll be hard to sell the chip' are some of the obvious factors stuck in my mind.. which makes it hard for me to come up with the right answer

well thw zalman did the works, and fits nicely into the wavemaster.
nice and stable at 3.0ghz, but my PSU is getting red hot!

i think it will run so much cooler when my 850watt shows up, as the tagan 480 is radiating heat all over the HS
