E6600 temps prob

I've just set up a new rig with P5B-Del (bios 0614), E6600, Zalman 9500 with Arctic Silver, OCZ 6400 Gold 2x1Gb. It didn't work more than an hour with CPU temps around 50 C at BIOS (so idle I suppose). Because of this temp I cleaned the Arctic with pure alchool (the first time I tried the spread style to put the Arctic), put a new drop (like a rice grain) and resited the cooler on the CPU. I have it now running about half an hour at BIOS with CPU temps around 49-50 and MB temps around 36. The case is a Thermaltake Shark with its own fans running at 1500 rpm and the cpu fan running at 2500 rpm (full speed). AI Tuning is set to standard. I cant run windows or any software to check because of new hd and tbh I am afraid to start setting up windows. I know that Arctic Silver is supposed to take some time to work, but 50 C doesnt seem right! Is it worth checking the stock cooler? Although the Zalman seems to be working fine!
Thanks for any replies!

I ve heard that, but I was still woried. If I start setting up windows and the CPU gets too hot will it shut down automatically? I even thought of using another paste (I also have the one from Zalman and one from an old cooler, the Gigabyte 3D Rocket) or try using the stock cooler! Arent the programs like Everest using the same sensor? Arent they going to show the same temps as in bios?

They should do yeah, 50c isnt gonna harm the cpu even at idle, my cpu hits 60c full and its fine. The cpu isnt gonna die because of the heat they have very good thermal potection.

You say the machine is unstable? and keeps shutting down? have you been in the bios and checked everything? make sure your not pushing your ram etc.

I think they fixed the temp mis read in the latest bios by the way, but dont try and flash until the machine is stable. :)

No its stable... It doesnt shut down and i have anything in auto... I dont know why but in the bios it gives me 1536 mb for the ram in the info screen of the bios. I was just asking whether it will shut down if it gets too hot when setting up the windows! Sorry for the mess but I was an AMD socket A user and I was used to high temps, so now I was expecting lows and I am not happy! :D
I have the latest bios 0614 by the way.

Yeah it would shut down if it detected the cpu at critical, so theres no chance of it burning out.

I know what you mean by expecting lower temps, I was too I used to have a x2 3800 before my 6600. load windows and use asus probe. and be prepared for a shock if you use core temp, cos that will tell you the temps of both cores and in your case i think it might be high.

If you use Everest or Core Temp it'll read the temperatures from the actual diodes inside the processor cores not the motherboard sensor. This will give you a better indication if the chip is overheating or not. The readings given by Core Temp / Everest should be 10-15c hotter than the motherboard sensor. If they end up only being a similar temperature than chances are your motherboard sensor is wrong.

As people have said 50c isn't harmful but it shouldn't be that high, i'd try remounting the heatsink.

I have tried to mount the cooler twice. Maybe I will try it this time with another paste! Who knows! Ahh.. Just checking... The case fun is facing outwards (blowing air out) and the Zalman's fan is also facing towards the fan. That is right, isnt it? I am going to re-mount for a third time! Maybe I am more lucky! :)

P.S. Forgot to say that the second that I turn the PC on the BIOS reports temps around 40 C and rising!

You should also take into consideration what the ambient temperature is...For example in my country I have 25-30C in the room where the PC lies. The idle temp is about 45C...

Please correct me if i'm wrong but i believe the fan on the zalman spose to be facing towards the front of the case (the intake) and the back of the zalman should be facing your exhaust fan.

So basically have the fan facing towards the front, not the back. If you have it placed the other way, the fan on the zalman will be fighting for air from the exhaust case fan, making you temps so high.

I have this fan myself but i yet to mount it as i am waiting for my 6600. looks amazing though and the build quility is second to none with the zalmans.

Temperature readings in bios are normally 'partial load' temperatures. Hotter than idle, but cooler than 2x Prime 95 etc.

51 in bios is a bit hot, but not dangerous by any means. As the previous poster said, your CPU cooler is currently fighting against the airflow of the rear fan. Turn the cooler around, and it should work better.

I'm using P5B (non-deluxe), and the temp sensors are waaay off. Latest BIOS, and Asus Probe still reads idle around 40-45c and load around 55c. CoreTemp reads idle@39c and load@50c. Thats under water too - CoreTemp looks about right but the mobo sensor must be around 15-18c too high I think - that sound about right ??

Oh yeah, that's with E6600 @ 3GHz on stock volts.

im also getting too high temps with a Zalman 9500
with the fan facing towards front of case
using fanmate to get fan speed down so fan isnt louder than X1900XT

with orthos i get 67C
when i use Intel thermal analysis tool and put on 100% load on both cores i reached 74C  thermal throttling did not start but i took of the load

guess i will have to try reaseating the hsf but i think i was really careful the first time i did it
