E6600 temps

Hi all. Core temp is reporting my E6600 as running at 71c under load. My question is how reliable is core temp and does 71c seem a bit excessive? I have tried using intel tat but it won't run on my MSI board.

Hi thanks for the reply. I'm using the scythe ninja and AS5. It's a bit worrying as the ambient is only around 23c. I have checked HSF and it does seem to be seated correctly! Would you guys reccommend returning everything to stock?

By the way my idle temps are

Core 0 55c
Core 1 56c

Well guys I've reseated the HSF after applying AS5 as per instructions. and i'm now idling around 66c and 84c under load. Obviously I'm seriously worried as I don't want to kill my CPU. I have noticed that my Vcore in the bios is set at 1.36v, where as I thought the E6600 should be around 1.25v. However vcore can't be altered on this board. Any ideas??
 
OK guys. I've now lapped my HSF and applied more AS5 as per instructions. My temps are now 55c idle and 68c under load at 2.8ghz stock volts. This still seems high to me. What do you guys think?

Hi thanks for the reply. I'm using the fan that came with scythe. ATM I've got it running full speed along with a rear exhaust fan and 2 fans at the front drawing air in and my idle temps are 56c and 74c load on both cores. I'm baffled!!

Those temps seem too high for stock volts.
