i'm thinking of upgrading my CPU to a Quad... have been for a while now... might be getting some £££ to do so, but i won't be able to afford the Quad... so i thought of the next best thing - E8200/E6750... can get them for the same price new; which would you go for?

or should i just buy a second hand E6750 for £90? or scrap the idea and wait for he Quad's money?

I'm a gamer who looks for some sort of longevity - no upgrades for 2 years...

If your buying new go for the E8200- £117.49 inc VAT, will your mobo support it. Your Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 will do, and overclock it.

Completely agree. There's no point in going for a new E6750 over a E8200 when the prices are almost identical. If you do decide to go second hand then there is a chance you could end up with a poor clocker which could be why it was being sold in the first place. I have just been lucky though. I got a E6600 (SL9ZL) off the bay for £67 and it is a beauty. Straight in at 3.6Ghz and should have even more to give.

Max i have seen for the E8200 is 4.7Ghz on water, 4.5Ghz on high end air. 3.8Ghz should be easy with a decent cooler.

Quads for gaming is a waste of time at the moment. Been there, done that. Had a E8500 breifly too. Back to the quad though. There are only a couple of games that use the 4 cores, Supreme Commander is one of them. Other games, Crysis included, will only use a pair so the other two cores will still be there doing nothing but still using power. It's why i got rid of my Quad and went back to dual cores. No doubt there will be games coming along (sometime) that will use all cores but we have been waiting a long time for games to use two cores so i would'nt hold my breath.
