ive been steadily overclocking my E8400 and have reached 3.6 on stock volts, but i noticed that as my mb voltage was on auto it has gone up to 1.648v in hw monitor is this too hight, what sort of voltage should be going through it? also i cannot get it to boot at a higher speed even when increasing the vcore.

Any advice?

don't put your volts on auto, and yes, that is way to high. Does CPU-Z return the same voltage?

ok, i put the nb voltage down to 1.31 in bios which gave me 1.34 in hw monitor and its ok like that so is this fine to keep it at? is there anything else i should set manually instead of auto?

so i need to set all of the auto things manually, im not sure i know what they all are supposed to be :( maybe i should give up overclocking and got back to stock to avoid killing my pc

what were all the initial voltages?
if I were you I'd put everything back to the beginning and start again.
also, read the overclocking guides at the top of the overclocking forum.

looking at the begginers overclcocking thread the only things i need to change are vcore and possibly NB for higher FSBs why so i need to chnge the rest?

Because most motherboards have a nasty habit of either under or overvolting. In terms of Orthos/Prime stability, most users here would suggest running either program for a minimum of 8 hours to ensure total stability.

If you do it for 8 hours then you can safely say that you overclock is stable at whatever voltages/settings you're running, you'd only need to run it again if you decide to play with your clock/settings again.

It was the vcore you were supposed to put down to 1.31v not the NB. Put the nb back to 1.49 as suggested and put ** vcore to 1.3 and increase little at a time if not stable.
