e8400 E0

Yeah I'm interested too! :)

I'm thinking an E8400 would maybe clock better than an E8600, maybe not pure CPU MHz but higher overall FSB and a better balanced clock?

Only got mine running at [email protected],took it up to 3.8 at stock volts but i can't get it to idle less than 39C even with tower tuniq on full?

I've read a few things about people having the same problems,is it anything to worry about?

many of the e8400's (mine included) have messed up sensors on the cores.

mine in particular reads a minimum of 42/46 (coretemp) at idle when infact its lower, however at 4.1ghz load temps are around 55-58 (orthos)

My E8400 is at 4.1Ghz with a peak temp of 60°C after 8 hrs of Orthos small FFT's, only gets to 58°C on blend, that's with a OCZ Vendetta 2 and a Noctua P12 fan. I know the chip will do more as I cocked up on the bios settings and was messing around in Vista until I started CPU-Z and saw I was at 4.25GHz but I'll wait until I take my old rig apart and transfer the water over.

I can knock 2°C off with a higher rated fan but I like it quiet :)

My CPU's VID is high @ 1.25V and I need 1.326V under load for it to be totally stable (P5Q-E, 2x2GB Corsair 8500).

Checked my sensors with RealTemp 2.84 which now does a heat up and cool down and logs the temp sensors so you can see if they stick or bottom out and mine are OK :)

excuse me while i thread hijack a little here, but does anyone know whether this CPU will run and overclock fine on this board please

Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L Intel P31

thanks matt, the chip just arrived (its a E0). Looking forward to getting home and have a go at clocking it.
