Had this setup for awhile and finally decided to get round to overclocking it, fire up cpu-z and it's only showing 1 core.
Device manager has 2 processors listed.
The mobo is a P5Q Pro

Any ideas?

How many cpu load bars do you get on the task managers performance tab. Most likely you either have windows set with a fixed number of cores (look in msconfig), or you have accidently installed a Uniprocessor HAL (Check computer type in hardware manager).

1 cpu on task manager, i found the option in msconfig but i can only select 1 processor.
Unticking it caused windows to grind to a halt, running in safemode the option for 2 processors was there, but again selecting 2 processors caused windows to grind to a halt.

Not sure where im looking for HAL I saw an option for it in msconfig but was unchecked already

cheers for help

Yay fixed, i had to uncheck the processors in msconfig but also check detect HAL and all is good now :)

Thats correct, it should always be unchecked :) I guess the HAL was incorrect before and that might have caused the crash when you were looking to force 2 cores in msconfig.

Glad its sorted.
