Hey guys

Just stuck a E8400 in my rig with a tuniq tower on top. at idle/stock i'm getting

30c in speedfan
30c in bios
21c in realtemp

which is right? do those temps sound about right?

Thanks all

i have an e8400 in the AI suite it shows 36 idle real temp shows 39 idle so quite close really this is on bog standard cooler with chip running at 3.4 nothing major

Got an e8500 @ 3.8ghz on 1.264v. Temps read between OCCT, CoreTemp and RealTemp are all over the place.

OCCT:
Idle - 42c
Load - 59c

CoreTemp:
Idle - 37c
Load - 54c

RealTemp
Idle - 32c
Load - 49c

gt

ie. you've got RealTemp reading exactly 5 degrees less than CoreTemp, which reads exactly 5 degrees less than OCCT...

That'll be because they will all be using different values for TJMax (temp at which CPU starts to throttle). There's loads of discussion about this in the thread over at XS - problem is Intel basically just don't say what it is so everybody just has to guess.

I still reckon RealTemp is the best of the bunch, particularly for 45nm CPUs. The guy who's made it seems to have done his homework.

Mine is very similar with real temp Vs coer temp.

Real temp says my cores are...

33'c and 34'c,

Whilst core temp says...

43'c and 43'c.

Are we saying that real temp is more accurate?
My motherboard says my temp is 250'c so im taking no notice of that :D

E8500 OC to 4.25 Realtemp 29C 31C, coretemp 39C 42C and Asus Probe 40C at idle with 1.45v@desktop and down to 1.43v under Orthos load with temps of RT 57C 57C CT 68C 68C and AP 70C but lower temps than that under gaming conditions.

Is yours watercooled then Althulas?
My temps seem high compared to yours. My cpu is on 3.7ghz and my tunic tower is not far off full wack.

My 8500 is at 3.7 using the Noctua cooler.

Real temp reads 33/34 idle, 50/51 after Orthos test for an hour.
Core temp reads 43/44 idle, 60/61 after Orthos test for an hour.

1.25V

heh mine is showing (coretemp in vista) around 50 in idle with tuniq tower.didnt checked under load....do i have a problem with it ? as mine temps in idle are like others have in load...

Seems to be the norm on air i guess.

There you go... CoreTemp using TJMax of 105 degrees, RealTemp using TJMax of 95 degrees.

Basically that means that CoreTemp will always read 10 degrees higher than RealTemp (well, for as long as neither program changes the value of TJMax they use) (Edit: and only for E8400s obviously, since different classes of processors have different TJMaxs)

This is because the programs do not (can not?) measure the temperature directly, instead they measure the distance to TJMax, whose value has to be guessed because Intel don't specify what it is. So if your TJMax is wrong all your temps are going to be off.

The big question is of course, which is right? This is more or less up to the individual to decide who to trust! Having followed the thread over at XS on the development of RealTemp from an early stage, that is the one that I trust.

This is mainly due to the developer's thourgh and scientific approach, use of IR probes, other members contributions etc. I would advise everyone to read through the thread and make their own mind up.

No just using Artic Silver5 kit, Zalman CNPS9700 and Antec 900 casewith all cables tidyed away so have got good flow through my case.

well my E8400 is insane and I dont know which temp to trust:

BIOS: 15c
SpeedFan: 15c (core 1: 55, core2: 52)
CoreTemp: core1: 57, core2: 53
RealTemp: Core1: 42, Core2: 45
Everest: 15c (core 1: 58, core 2: 51)

I live in Nicaragua (very hot country) so my room temp is about 32 to 35c so 15c sound really unrealistict.... My "Fingernometer" say that the Stock heatsink its not that hot, so I guess my temps are the one in Real Temp.

Im waiting a Zalman 7500 to arrive (that about the biggest cooler that can fit in my Lanbox case) I will report any change in temps....
