E8400 to replace Q6600

About the Zalman 9700NT, I own one, and it was great for cooling my AMD Dual Core, it kept it around 39 to 42c under 100% load, and it idled at around 22 to 25c..

I now have it cooling an i7 920 D0, as I figured if it kept my AMD 6000+ X2 as cool as it did, it would be good enough for my i7, so I bought the Zalman 1366 bracket, and used it for my i7 build... and I really dont think it is doing a good job at all...

@ stock speeds it idles at around 42 to 46c, and under full load on all cores it hits about 69c, and a minor O/C to 3GHz and my load temps peak out at around 76 to 80c!!!

I am not really sure how well it would cool a C2Q6600, but If I were you I would go for something other than this HSF... There are lots of other coolers out there that will do a much better job than the 9700NT thats for sure!!

definitely not, it would be a down grade and you'd nerf your pc for games like gta iv and supcom and for the future.
Dual cores are dead tech in my eyes.

Stick with the quad. The tide is turning for games.

I dunno what gear they were using, but that review is utter rubbish. Freezer 7 as good as a TRUE? Freezer 3deg better than the Noctua? Noctua 4deg better than Intel stock cooler?

I've used a Freezer, a Noctua and the Intel stock cooler on the same gear... the Noctua is a good 10-15c better than the Freezer, and the stock cooler doesn't even come into consideration. That's real-life usage, not some five-minute lab test.
