Hey all,

I'll get my cooling (OCZ V2+ Noctua P12) only on Sunday, though I want to assemble my new PC today. My problem is I don't want to install intel's stock HSF, since I believe it has a thermal pad sticked on it, which I think will stick to the CPU; then, take it all off in order to apply my TIM and install the new cooling on Sunday.

Therefore, I've wondered, is it possible / safe to run the E8400 bare naked for a few days, even if lowering its clock is needed?

Cheers!

HOLY CRAP lol

Realistically you could run it for about 20-30 seconds before the IHS starts to melt.

:D Well, I think I've been decisively answered! LOL

Oh well, I'll just stick to Intel's one for the time be...

I ran an old Athlon XP 2500 without any cooler for a few days. I could not understand why the thing kept crashing every 25mins until I opened my case and found one of the retention brackets had snapped off of the socket. The heatsink was sitting at the bottom of the case. It worked perfectly fine after attaching a new heatsink.

I dropped a q9450 by accident two weeks ago and guess what - the thing died:mad:. Sod's Law.

allways happens when u drop by accident. you could do it 20 times on purpose and would still work lol. so the law is when you drop a component, act like you ment it, even drop it again for good measure and it will work like a charm after :D
