HI,
just to check is it ok that my E8500 o/c'd 4ghz hits 72C on prime95?
during games maximum seen 58C
I am running on Coolermaster Z600 cpu cooler with one fan!

-also, I think maybe cpu sencors are broken as with stock Intel cooler was same temperature as with Z600

The chip will throttle at 100C to self protect.
Although 72c is high you won't damage the chip and it will last longer than you will need it for.

Locke, what do you mean by wont last long??

Hi,
The thing is that it's only on stress tests, maximum I've seen 60C during games...

You should try the Intel Burn Test (IBT). It normally adds 10C to an Orthos generated test. To be honest the sensors are only there to trigger the overheat protection.

Is the bottom of the IHS flat and true in both axis? If not it might need lapping. Did you clean the old TIM off the chip prior to installation of the Z600?

What software are you using to monitor temps.
Was the cooler installed correctly.

(Ps - Your sig is to big, max 4 lines of std text)

Intel Burn Test. If it fails, you will need to look at reseating that cooler or purchasing a Noctua, TRUE, Tuniq Tower etc.

Your temps look okay to me yes they could be lower but there not bad....as long as you dont go past 60*c at load when gaming for a few hours....how long you planning on having you E8500 for?

i found this it may or may not be accurate

--70--/--75--75-- Hot
--65--/--70--70-- Warm
--60--/--65--65-- Safe
--25--/--30--30-- Cool
