E8500 E0

Oops I just hit confirm order lol

Its 4pm now, lets hope they are quick out the door with it and I will get it tomorrow.

What sort of clock do you think I can hit? I'm running Rampage Bios on my Maximus and my ram is PC2-8000

4GHZ easy 100% Guaranteed at low voltage probably 1.1v and possibly lower like mines (week 22 batch). ;)

4.5GHZ 90% chance with safe voltages.

All above on Good Air Cooling with Safe Voltages (under 1.45VCore and 1.45VTT) BUT dependant on the Mobo/Chipset.

if you think about it a £35 extra is not too much inorder to guarentee a E0 . i mean iirc q6600 g0 was >£10 more expensive than a q6600 b3. and the e8600 may be the last core2duo so may hold a bit more value in the future.

i am testing my new e8600 as we speak, and will post after a few hours of stressing. currently at 4.33ghz air but i have a supposidly bad (early batch) chip and it is piping hot.

Tell me about this early batch. Mine is Q820****. If I got a "supposedly bad" batch I'll be seriously p**sed off. Thing is, my cooler won't arrive for a while so for now I'm stuck with the stock HSF, meaning I can't fully test it. I bought the CPU because it's supposed to be guaranteed to be a good clocker. All I ever got from OcUK in the past were crappy overclocking chips, every single one of them. I've had too many! If this is another, I'm gonna go mad!

I briefly took it to 4.00GHz, but that took 1.325V. I assumed this was purely down to the stock Intel cooler. Now I'm beginning to doubt it.

lol, are u going to refund me my money cos it won't do 4ghz with less than 1.1v?!?! cos mine needs 1.35 for stability, will not even post with 1.1v at 4ghz

my chip is not doing that well, needs 1.5v to post at 4.5 and nowhere near stable 90 degrees load :(

oh btw Godsbrother, i bought it from a competitor so should ease u a little bit.

Yep, same VID here. Ah man this is BS. I'm putting this sucker on eBay ASAP.

What cooler you using right now?

I have an OCZ Vendetta 2. at stock it loads at 55ish, which was rather high imo. the chip is definatly hotter than my e6550 it replaced.

did u buy it from OCuk?

mr_x_plosion, please keep us updated on the chip u get from OCUK as i may take another shot at a E8600. Hopefully u will get it tomorrow.

Yeah, bought it from OcUK. And this is the last CPU I ever buy from there. I'm serious. I've had nothing but garbage for 4 years.

It's hardly OCUK's fault.

Hell, the many chips I have gotten over the last couple of years have all been bad clockers, but its jsut one of those things.

Buy form somewhere else and you are just as likely to land up with a good or bad chip as you would be ordering frpm here.

I said 1.1v POSSIBLY lower. ;)

Look at reviews, most got 4GHZ with 1.1v, you need use a 120mm Cooler IMO 90mm Coolers don't cut it and will need more voltage as it will run hotter.

I again have a "Week 22 Batch", so I cant comment on others.

The VID's are wonky IMO in Core Temp for E8600's, this is why :

On my E6850 and E8500, the VID was obv less than the default voltage when running default volts/speed (why should it need more voltage that default to run default, that means a bad CPU Sample ?). ;)

As you OC the VID rises also, but on the E8600 its static and reads 1.2125v for mines at ALL Clocks but I can run 4GHZ with 1.05v so its obv wrong so far.

Real Temp has a LOW VID and a HIGH VID, which seems to make more sence.

i agree, i for one bought from a competitor this time, and my e8600 was a dud.

OCuk are generally a good e-retailer. they are usually the 1st to update price drops and it seams that competitors only follow suit a week or 2 later.

i've been using them for years, first order was a p4 1.4ghz (which was great tbh), but have received some bad clockers. i buy 2 or 3 chips from them every year and have been a very happy customer at times.

I'm not saying it's their fault, all I know is I've had nothing but crappy luck buying CPU's from there. All other stuff (boards, vid cards, etc) have been fine, it's only CPU's.

I'll buy from somewhere that can guarantee I don't get a bad batch. I'd imagine plenty of retailers will tell me the batch or week number before I buy, including sellers on eBay.

i have ddr2 ram thats running at 900mhz at moment if I get a 8600 what fsb and mem dividers would get me 4ghz

I have 2180@3ghz at moment big performance gain or money better spent on upgrading the 8800GT to 280gx or 4870 ?

Many different set ups.

I do not know much about Dividers as not a Intel Chipset here.

400FSB (1600FSB Quad Pumped) x 10 = 4GHZ

So that's the minimum FSB your Mobo is going to have to reach. :)

Will do, got order dispatch confirmation and I finish work at 11:30am tomorrow so it should be here when I get home.

At that price with free shipping its a bargain.

Guys, I know the stock cooler is poop, but what kind of OC's should I expect with it? 4GHz @ 1.325V runs fine in Super Pi 32M, but fails a 15 min. test in OCCT with a "CPU too hot!" message. I'm not gonna stress about that because OCCT reports completely wrong temps anyway. Also, I was scared to run more than 1 round of IntelBurnTest, although it did pass. Temps went up to 75 degrees or something.

I don't intend to overclock using the stock cooler, btw, I just want a rough idea of what this CPU can do.

Im in exactly the same position (hardware wise), except my motherboard/proessor is dieing so its got to go. Otherwise I think I would change the graphics card. Saying that the resale value of the 8800 GT cant be much now which makes me want to hang onto it and get my moneys worth.

That way more voltage than any review needed for 4GHZ (well ones I seen).

Either Week 20 Batch are crap (I doubt they are that bad and most reviews would be using them) or your needing to cool it better to get lower voltage.

I would not even dream of doing 4GHZ on stock cooing period.

As a pointer 4GHZ was about 1.1v on most reviews, I ain't sure what cooling as cant remember.

i don't think there is an availible memory divider for exactly 4ghz and 900Mhz RAM. If 4Ghz is all you want then just use 400x10, 1:1 ratio and RAM on tight timings. 4Ghz should be a breeze, i mean 666 Mhz overclock is not really a lot.

but you would probally see a difference from your E2180@ 3Ghz. I went from 3.6Ghz E6550 to 4.33Ghz and now Crysis is 'playable' at Ultra settings with a mere 4850. But it depends what GPU you currently have. If you have anything lower than a 3850 than a Graphics Card upgrade would be more worth while.

I wouldn't dream of running it at 4GHz for more than a short period. I'm sure you understand -- I have a brand new "guaranteed overclocking" CPU here that I've been waiting for, it's installed, and I want to get at least a basic idea of whether or not I bought a bad one or not. Obviously, I can't find this out unless I overclock it a little bit. It hasn't been run like this for a long time, just literally less than an hour. 4GHz for a short time shouldn't be a major problem for this processor, it's only a 20% overclock.

I have a feeling I bought a complete dog. This is a huge hassle because I don't have an income right now, and to buy this I had to sell a lot of my stuff. Even if a decent air cooler knocks 10-15 degrees off the temp, it still doesn't look very promising.

Ah man, it's just one of those weeks where everything sucks! Even the Adidas I just bought are fakes! LOL. I have to laugh... :D
