e8500 OC

Coretemp reports VID of 1.15.

Not sure if 3.8 will be totally stable at 1.25V in bios yet as not primed.

Don't want to go over 1.3 though.

Coretemp has my cores idling at 49 degrees, and Realtemp has the idling at 39 degrees.

Which do I believe?

Also, this is currently with no OC and with speedstep enabled. Don't those temps seem high, even going by the Realtemp temps?

Thanks, but like i said thats at stock, and I dont' know which of those temps to believe. Is coretemp or Realtemp giving the correct reading?

So guys, still would like to know if Realtemp mroe accurate than coretemp.

I have a Coolermaster Hyper TX 2 on it, which should be better than stock from reviews I checked out.

If I assume that Realtemp is correct, the CPU is idling at around 39c, and when I ran small FFT's in Prime last night, it went to around 54c. This seems a little high for no overclock at all. Or is it right?

It appears the E series have dodgy temp sensors, i have same mobo but E8400 and i still dont know which temp reading to trust. Speedfan,Coretemp etc etc all different.

Your system looks like what im gonna upgrade to soon wellibob. How is it performing btw, im gonna be stepping up from a opteron 165 @ 2.5 with 2Gb of ddr ram?

I got 3.8 out of my e8200 at less than 1.3volts so the OP needs to keep going!!!! (yeah i couldnt be bothered stability testing it but you get the idea)

Garz, get a wolfdale and clock the pants of it. 4 gig ram is essential for vista, and if you do a lot of encoding, a quad core intel is the choice , however not as easy to surpass 4 gig core as per say a E8400 will do (component dependant).

I dont do any encoding tbh, mainly gaming on MMO's. So the 8400 the one to get, what cooler would you suggest and any preference to mainboard (was gonna buy crossfire supported but might wait for the 4870x2 and ditch the CF idea)?

Ive had my mobo since Nov 07, and i took a gamble the P5K was going to run a wolfdale past 4 gig, with a 480+ fsb. It did and does. As for cpu coolers, i own a Ximatech S1283 (with backplate fittings not pushpins). Temps are great with this cooler (and noise levels) and it replaced a AF7 cooler which i found wasnt good enough for my overclocked E8500. Gpu wise, single slot pci-e solutions suit me best. done SLI and not keen on crossfire, X2 cards are ok by me though !

Seems I got a bit of a dud... 3.8GHz Requires 1.3V, 4GHz, requires 1.38, and 4.2GHz wasnt stable with 1.4V which is the highest I would be willing to go. Have settled on 3.8.

Just wish for once I was the person to get one of the good clockers. I just never seem to have that kind of luck, whether it be CPU or GPU :(

Well so you don't feel so bad mine needs 1.4v for 4g in bios to be stable but does go down to 1.36v under load so that's ok and have had mine since launch and have been using it for the last 3months at 1.5v in bios which drops down to 1.46v under load for a 4.25g all on air. So if your worried about degrade just leave it at 1.4v for that 4g OC.

your oc doesnt seem too bad. Im debating quad vs Dual at the moment, my B3 produces insane ammount of heat so really could do with swapping it out for a E8400.
