EA buys out DICE

As far as I'm aware EA have published all the Battlefield games, it seems a little unfair to blame them for the BF2 issues and BF2142 but give DICE all the credit the BF1942.

The fact they made dice rush bf2 out makes afew peed off with them, dice knew it wasn't ready but they had no choice.

I thought BF2 was great until a few patches ago when quality control seemed to go down the pan. EA had a lot of problems with unpaid developer overtime, so I don't think it's a surprise people are blaming them for patch problems in their "published" games.

But using that logic shouldn't EA also get some credit for BF1942. It just seems that when they publish anything good everybody says it’s because of the developer but as soon as anything goes wrong it's EA fault.

As I said before DICE have now had over a year to fix it and haven’t even come close. The rushed to release excuse only really holds up if they actually manage to fix it, in the case of BF2 it really seems some of the core systems just don't work.

On THQ

They have a game, probably game of the year, at the top of the charts now in company of heroes and next year they already have the game of the year ready in Supreme Commander.
This should surely sort out any financial problems :D

Well THQ are sponsoring some programmes on UK History in order to pimp their COH out.

yeah, cant remember the last time i saw EA pimp fifa07 on TV or priemiership grounds ad boards............ pile o cak that it is too

EA have had a majority in DICE for quite some time, since before BF2's release. The deal has only just been finished. But DICE has been operating as an EA owned company for ages now as far as i know. Not a surprise at all...

Shhh, you'll ruin everyone's belief that DICE are fantastic and all of their short comings are as a direct result of EA!

Really, I think this is a complete non-event. People just love to moan about big companies like EA and Valve. Just look in the recent Steam thread to see people's opinions of both Steam and Valve. My Counter-Strike: Source and Steam, as well as all my friends, have worked absolutely flawlessly for months. Then there's a problem this week and everyone's all fire and brim stone, saying "typical Valve " without any real reasoning!

Battlefield 2 has it's bugs due to lazy developers who didn't think of fixing a problem until it was too difficult to fix.

Anyway, a lot of you seem to be brushing aside the fact Battlefield 2 is one of the most popular releases in recent time.

As others have said, I already thought they were EA owned.

And I feel the need yet again to point out that EA are capable of supporting originality in games, just look at Spore.

Do you really think Spore would have been published if it wasn't being developed by Will Wright? If it wasn't for the Sims I seriously doubt Maxis would have had the money or a publisher to make Spore.

I don't really understand what you're getting at there. Money or no, EA are still supporting the production of Spore.

To be fair to EA they had owned Maxis for 3 years before the original Sims was released so its fairly safe to say they financed the whole thing which at the time was big risk, especially considering they probably paid a fair chunk of change to acquire them and easily could have turned around and said make a new version of Simcity every year. Instead they let Will do what he wanted, took a risk on a new, although very closely related, franchise and struck gold.
