EA in a Nutshell

So much hyperbole.
Also I would like to point out that EA are not quite as evil as people seem to think. Just because a company does dumb stuff doesn't mean they are the devil. EA have done some reasonable things in their time.
How is Origin advertising? And, if Origin is a cargo ship then steam is the frickin starship Enterprise. Sure Origin is the perfect example of "dumb stuff" but hey, it's not like Valve haven't kept their games platform exclusive before. Competition breeds innovation, remember.
It's not like Valve are all lollipops and rainbows either. They are just a different company doing different things that operates in a different way.

Not in the case of EA. They buy the competition. And being owned by EA stifles innovation becase the game studio effectively has to do as they say to maximise profits (which means making half-assed games, in as short a time frame as possible).
Hopefully the likes of this video will wake people up.
When you have shareholders running the show you get EA. Anyone who wants to try and be innovative and take a risk will be more successful trying out on their own. Indie game developers have become much more common place mostly thanks to the Internet.
Valve is no saint but being private they still have their freedom. There's an article about Valve refusing to the float a couple years back. Not long but an interesting read nevertheless.

EA definitely don't always do this. They've been utter **** lately but they have released some games that are not terrible. EA just don't have any principles and people just don't care.
That said, I do hope people wake up and realise that you don't get companies to do what you want by complaining about it and buying their products anyway. Perhaps some awareness as to their business practices will cause more people to boycott, but I don't think it's likely. The average guy who buys EA's games doesn't care that much. If you don't like it then don't buy games from EA and EA will keep selling to the average guy.
I don't think people are genuinely dissatisfied with games from EA if I'm totally honest. Just because you get the occasional person on Reddit who engages in this weird cycle where they keep buying things they don't want doesn't mean everyone else does. If I don't want something and have had bad experiences with a company I don't buy it and I would hope most sane people do the same thing.
But yeah, maybe awareness will make people care. Video is still hyperbole though.
I'm talking about Origin in regards to competition. Origin is a service that offers many of the same things that Steam does. Undoubtedly it does not match up to Steam at this point in time, but like I say, competition breeds innovation. Steam having competitors can only be a good thing as far as I am concerned. How could it not be? Steam has competitors as far as pricing is concerned. I now shop around at gamersgate, green man gaming etc before buying. Origin competes with Steam as far as features are concerned and that is a good thing.
That said, both Valve and EA need to pull their heads out of their respective rears and put games on other services like everyone else (Paradox do this since they aren't dicks). I don't really care as long as retail is still around (buy a boxed copy) but the moment I can't shop around is the moment I will have a genuine problem with Origin/Steam.

EA made some amazing games in the past, and I'm sure they will continue producing amazing stuff in the future.
Look at Fifa. Amazing game. Top notch. Is it recycled? Yes, but what do you want them to add to the game? They made huge improvements like Ultimate Team and Be a Pro. Fair enough they never got round to fixing their online servers, but still its an amazing game.
As far as I know, there was no day 1 DLC for the EA games I own (Crysis 2 and BF3). There was the map pack (which were recycled BF2) maps for FREE on pre-order, but if you pre-ordered it, you did not have to pay extra. [forgot the real details on this, so I stand to be corrected]
Once again, I have no idea why people view Origin in such a negative light. it is basically a copy of STEAM, but for one game publisher. May I ask what is wrong with that? If it effects sales, its their frickin business. Do GMG not offer the same thing, but for many publishers?
Fact of the matter is, EA are a business. They work to get money. If they manage to make money by creating (in YOUR opinion) **** games, which people still buy its fair game. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Simple as. I have no idea why people moan.
Don't come telling me 'oh, look, spend your money on an indie games. 100 times the fun at a lower price and at a dev who actually cares.' Well you know what, NO! Because I do not like the game, and would rather spend 10 times that amount for a game I will actually play. I have tried indie games, and they are not my cup of tea. If they are yours, well and good, but they certainly are not mine.
To summarise, I think people are too harsh on EA and Activision. They create games, which you do not like. MANY other people like them, that is why the company is still alive. If you don't like, don't buy.
And oh, just because I play 'mainstream' games, it doesn't make me any less of a real gamer, or what other trash people come up with. That is my sort of game, and thats what I will play.
EDIT: I did like the video though. Seems like it was pretty hard to do, so well done to the person who made it!
EDIT 2: Last thing, I don't know why people on the video are complaining about 'The Sims' expansions. Is it not good? It gives you new stuff to play with. What, do you want them to make an entirely new game with that content? Heck, how much would people moan if they saw that!
EDIT 3: Btw, i am a strong believer against DLC. I don't like it, and never bought any form of DLC. That being said, I think its a good idea to lengthen the life of a game. Personally, I would like it to be free/very cheap like PC mods, but if people are willing to pay for it, I hold nothing against the business. They are doing their job.
