EA to drop Online Pass system

Wait, whut? So if you want to take that game you just bought round to your mates house to show him and try and persuade him to get a copy so you can play together online, you actually need to take your whole console?! Just... mental... I need to get myself a decent gaming PC built stat!

The way things are going you may need to do that/inevitably will with PC games.

the games are probably just tied to a gamertag.

It's proper **** though even if it is like that what about families with multiple xbox's in the same house? expecting people to buy multiple versions of a game and no longer being able to borrow games to friends is just pure greed

Did you seriously just say 'families with multiple xbox's'? Who the hell owns more than 1 of the same console? I really hope you meant 'people with more than 1 account per household'.

my stepson has an xbox360
my son has an xbox 360 (he originally had a wii but didn't play it very much and most the games were just novelty crap so he got an xbox on one of his birthdays)

Sharing one between them would be to much hassle so it makes more sense for them both to have their own.

some games they have multiples of anyway like games that are online focused.
but most games are fairly short with no re-playability and being forced into buying two copies is just wrong.

It's not really any different from music and film companies saying your dvd/cd will only work on one player

Xbox One will allow the same Xbox One to share the Disc based game on different gamertags apparently.

But MS/EA are up to their usual tricks with the new console (if you can even call it that ) the nextgen FIFA game engine is not coming to PC at this time :(

MS do not have a clue what is going on they have built an ugly, cheap & nasty mini PC & want to dominate the living room & ensure it plays games whilst also pushing the PC away as they cannot be bothered to find a viable solution to making money out of that except the OS sale (which should be enough IMO as they cost enough!).

I can see the same issues happening as when the Xbox 360 launched.

Exclusive 6-12 months console only releases. Kinect forced BS I mean I do not know anyone who wants to mess around with that when playing games its terrible not everyone has the space either!

Remedy have also anounced their next game is Xbox One only for now I expect the other launch games to avoid a PC release for a long time thats how MS/Sony roll to force people to buy the new console(s).

I will just wait & see how this all plays out as historically the PC has always suffered for up to 2 years after the next gen consoles come out it takes a while for the porting to improve this time the stakes are higher (I do not expect MS to be around in 10 years as they are now this new console is a disaster IMO it has moved even further away from being a core gaming device :().

Sounds like the consoles are just playing catchup with how PC gaming works. PC games have been tied to your Steam/Origin/Uplay account for how long now?

From what I am reading, this new Xbox console seems very very unappealling to me. Any whiff of any of the draconian DRM that is being described and I wont be touching it, that goes for the PS4 also.

Piracy has been around since forever, as has the moral argument that simply helping yourself to a product that has taken a lot of labour, creativity, and expertise to produce, is wrong. However, I honestly feel that the increasing privacy invading, freedom restricting DRM measures could make a strong case for the pirates being those with the moral upper ground.

Only one of EA's products that I am mad about is the BF series, FIFA, they can stick up their crusty ringpieces.....Hopefully ARMA III will really be the dogs ********, an large scale online fully modable PC shooter, something to keep PC gamers amused for years and keep us well away from vile clutches of these corporate blood suckers.

If people are helping themselves as you put it, to games, how do they expect developers to continue making games with the loss of revenue?

Football Manager is a good example, it was highly pirated and Miles (Head honcho) has said numerous times that making people use Steam has helped reduce piracy and as a result talks about increases in budget for the game (the game can be released in other languages and sells better abroad) and he can hire more staff / better staff to improve the game.
