EA will suspend your access to paid for titles for making flippant comments

If this chap was in the UK, he would certainly have a legal case, the decision would be if you could be bothered with actually persuing it and the associated costs.

That's the thing, I think EA know people just won't go through with it. I really think governments should have a good look at this because gaming eulas have been a grey area with consumers for too long. So I guess until someone has the balls (and money) to take it to court and set a precedent then companies like EA will carry on with this bluff...

If you say so. You agreed a contract with EA. The court would say it was your fault. Though now days "small print" does not stand up in court but I don't think this would count as small print as it pops up on your screen and tells you to read it.

So if the contract said that I must give my firstborn to EA to play the game, do you think that would hold up in a court?

The T+Cs / EULA / Contract does not state anywhere that if you lose your forum account, then you can no longer play the game according to people who have looked through it in the official thread for this. I definitely saw no such requirement when I installed DAO which is bound to my bioware account.

This isnt an MMORPG, its a single player game. By UK trading standards, if you bought a single purchase software without any kind of renewable license, then its yours to keep and use as you like forever. They cant take away a product that you have paid for in full.

Seriously, if you actually believe that EA have the right to ban you from a fully purchased single player game for a forum post, then you are even more bonkers than I am.

EULA's are not the same as a contract.

and they have been defeated in court repeatedly.

Hell, most of the copy protection that is forced upon us is illegal. We're legally entitled to make backup copies of our software in the UK, and it's illegal for companies to prevent us from doing so.

Half true. We're allowed to make backup copies of any software we legally own, but only if we can do it without bypassing any copy protection that may be in place. That rule was specified in the EUCD (European Union Copyright Directive) October 2003, and will still be correct unless it's changed recently and I missed it.

I learned to expect nothing but utter tripe and rubbish from EA and then you wont be disappointed much.

Funny how we are forced to have a bioware account in the first place for the DLC & numerous bonus items etc, god forbid people use them to speak there mind.

I saw that on the dragon age 2 forums, guy created another account to post a complaint, since bioware and EA have merged you have to follow both sets of terms and conditions; and EA's one has something in it about having the ability to suspend/band accounts, if it deems users...I dunno...unfriendly? Also since all the games are linked to one account he can't play any of his other bioware games either.

Yeah....that's kind of the gist of the whole thread :D

I was going to purchase Risk Factions, E.A can **** right off now.

E.A or Activision...

Who is most evil?

Just when E.A looked like they were starting to turn a corner too.

I expect the **** storm to get worse with E.A realising the messed up and then issuing an apology, EXACTLY how they did with the C&C episode.

They will blame the forum Admin saying he was over zealous etc.

It would appear the issue is resolved. Activision still reign as most evil.

Here is my official response. You will likely see this picked up on news sites soon enough.

EA strictly enforces the code of conduct at Social.BioWare.com. If a player violates the rules by using profanity, they will be temporarily banned. Unfortunately, there was an error in the system that accidentally suspended a user's entire account. Immediately upon learning of the glitch, EA restored the user's macro account and apologized for the inconvenience.
